| Kaworu Nagisa first appears in episode 24 of Neon Genesis Evangelion as the Fifth Child to replace Asuka, who is unable to pilot her Eva. Kaworu was sent from SEELE, records of his past were destroyed like Rei Ayanami's, and he was born on the exact day of the second impact. Kaworu meets Shinji on a beach and knows who he is but Shinji knows nothing about him. Kaworu quickly takes to Shinji and later tells him that he loves him. Later NERV find out that Kaworu is infact the last Angel (the seventeenth). Not even inside the Eva, Kaworu takes controll of Unit-02 dispatching Shinji into pursuit. Trying to believe that Kaworu isn't an Angel, Shinji is put into a difficult situation. Misato convinces him that Kaworu is the 17th Angel and therefore, has to be destroyed. Shinji, in Unit-01, approaches Kaworu, shouting at him how he was betrayed again. A fight begins between Unit-01 and 02, with Prog knives. Shinji's knife slipped and headed for the 17th Angel but is stopped by his own A.T Field. Kaworu heads to his goal : 'Heaven's Door', unlocking the mechanism just by looking at it and enters. He enters to believe he is seeing Adam, but realises that it is Lilith. Shinji defeats Asuka's Unit-02, and crashes into Terminal Dogma. Kaworu realises that merging with Lilith will kill all mankind, including Shinji. He decides to sacrifice himself so that mankind and more importantly, Shinji, can survive. Kaworu thanks Shinji and says to him : 'This is my wish...please...destroy me. Otherwise, you will be destroyed. Only one life form can be chosen to evade the destruction and seize the future... and you are not the existance which should die. You need the future... it is what you live for. Thank you Shinji... my life was meaningful... because of you' Shinji, grasping Kaworu in Unit-01's hand, he closes his grip, crushing Kaworu to death. |
