This was the first proto-type to defeat the Angels. During an activation test-run, the Unit went beserk so it was put back under repairs. It was destroyed in the battle with the fifth Angel.

After the fight against the fifth Angel, Unit 00 was rebuilt and re-painted.

Evangelion Unit 01
Unit 01 is the most unpredictable of all the Evas and is easily the most powerful. It was rumoured that Yui Ikari was sucked into this unit giving it a soul. Unit 01 can regenerate, can act without a pilot and has a blood thirst rampage against some Angels.

According to the pilot, this Unit is the first non-prototype model.

Evangelion Unit 03
Apon activtion this Evangelion is posessed by an Angel, fighting the other Evas in beserk mode. Shinji didnt want to defeat the Eva but Gendo sets Unit 01 to dummy plug mode, destroying the Eva. The truth hits Shinji, as he realises that Touji is the pilot.

Evangelion Unit 04
Built and located in the NERV base, which is not seen a lot. This Unit mysteriously dissapears from the face of the Earth.

Evangelion Units 05 - 12
These Units were created by SEELE to attack NERV. They are unmanned as they rely on an internal S2 engine. Each Unit carries a replica of the Lance of Longinus.
