During the reign of Louis, the "Sun King" in France, a wandering family company of puppeteers set up and performed at the Foire de Paris. Soon they were under royal patronage, and became The Royal Marionettes.
At the time of the Revolution the family split up and later one branch travelled with Napoleon's army to the Battle of Austerlitz in Czechoslovakia.. The "royal" shows were changed to suit the less elegant taste of the soldiers. Succeeding generations of puppeteers remained there till the coming of the Communists, when many of them staged anti Communist shows and were forced "underground".
They eventually escaped and most ended up in Paris, which was soon deluged with puppets. They performed everywhere- on TV, in Cinema houses at Interval time, in the finest Music Halls, in every level of NightClub, in schools, and on the street as buskers. Soon one couple decided to move on, and so began a world tour which lasted many years, covered 51 countries and 6 continents. They performed in Theaters, Hotel Floor Shows, Nightclubs, TV, Casinos. Festivals, Expos and State Fairs, Museums, Libraries, Community and Cultural Centers, Schools and Colleges.
They also performed on a frozen lake in the Canadian North, a movie house in Central Africa where many of the audience members had to be asked to leave their spears at the door, at a Wheat Festival in Argentina which was invaded by a cloud of locusts, and did 4 Command Performances for Royalty and Heads Of State.
Nowadays they consider New Orleans their home base, where they perform annually at the Jazz and Heritage Festival and add to the atmosphere of the French Quarter, but continue to travel either singly or as a duo, to perform at Festivals and Fairs around the world..
