I had been wanting to try dreadlocks for a few years, and I finally decided
that I was going to grab ahold of my balls and DO IT. I ordered my kit from
DreadHeadHQ, and they're products are awesome. Everything works better than
I expected it to, and they don't lie about the wax smelling great. I'd
strongly recomend their stuff to anyone thinking about doing the dreadie
thang. If you're looking for beads and dreadie toys and what not,
knottyboy.com has a great selection of incredibly cool wire and glass dread
beads. Check 'em out.

Anyways, enough with the product plugging. On
with the show!

my *cough*pretty*cough* hair
This is my hair, pre-dreadlock. My hair was about 18 inches long when all the
curls were stretched out, with a very soft, fine texture. Naturally, it's a
shade up in the brownish-red department from jet freaking black, so
obviously it's colored. It was always easy to manage, but y'know what? It
was time for a change!

hair claws = god.
I call it 'The Joys of Hair Claws'. This picture was taken not too long after I
started dreadlocking. I enlisted the assistance of one of a friend to help
section my hair off and reach the back. She has many more pictures of the
process early on, those will be added at a later date. I believe this
picture was taken the next morning. To give an idea as to the timeline of
this, my friend and I started sectioning off my hair at 9:30 the evening of
July 1st. Sectioning it off alone took roughly four hours. We dreaded
untill 6 am, and I picked up where we left off the next afternoon. I'm glad
I spent so much time on them, I think it's paid off.

craaaaaaaziness...
Still dreadlockin'. I started in the very back, at the bottom, and once all the
hard-to-reach ones were done, I started on the right half, moving foreward
from the back. Before I started each new dreadlock, I spritzed it with the
Locking Accelerator and tangled it in. It really helped the process move
along faster. The only problem I kept running into was as I was moving down
a section of hair, I'd find a lose spot, and then I'd have to backcomb the
already-backcombed parts to tighten it up. Such a tedious process, and even
though I'm in good shape, my arms were exhausted!

hair boner!
What I've affectionalty dubbed the French-Fry Syndrome. My hair was sticking
out EVERYWHERE! It was funny as hell.

i'm too sexy.
I took a break in the evening to go see fireworks with my dad. They're
still only half-finished, you can see from that big gaping hole on the far
side of my head. I was quite pleased with how the process was going, and
having the headband on for a few hours helped tame the li'l dreadies.

tarantula head!
FINALLY, they were DONE. Oh man, what a relief...for me AND my arms. The
sectioning off process that took so long in the beginning was deffinetely
worth it, all my dreads are about the same size. Gotta love the accelerator
and wax, too. Go, DreadHeadHQ!

BADASS!!!
Well, here's day three, they're done, and I LOVE 'em! Even after just three
days, they're already tightening up, and I constantly palmroll 'em after
spritzing my hands with the locking accelerator. The fuzzy li'l guys are
locking up extremely well, and I can't wait for oppertunities to show 'em
off. I've found that, instead of wearing nylons over my head while sleeping
or wraping 'em up in something to keep them from getting wet in the shower,
it's easier to just take a t-shirt, put it on, and then take it off so that
the neckband is around your head and the shirt hangs down over the dreads.
It doesn't smoosh them down like a bandana does, and it seems a little more
socially acceptable to have a shirt on your head, rather than old-lady
leggings.

FUZZALICIOUS!
As of tonight, I have had the dreads in for 5 days, and decided to see how
they'd hold up in a shower. I had to improvise using some sort of head
covering. A t-shirt, even a thin one, would have been too heavy, and I was
worried about not getting all the suds out. I used a fishnet shirt instead,
and that worked quite well. I spent about 2 minutes soaping it up with the
DreadHeadHQ shampoo, and about 10 minutes rinsing it through. After
squeezing most of the water out and shaking my head out like a dog, I
spritzed it though with the locking accelerator again, and now I'm waiting
for everything to dry. I have come up with a new word to describe my lovely
dreadies: FUZZALICIOUS!

one week old! one week old!
My dreads as of one week old. I'm so proud and they're looking awesome. The
ones in the back are tightening up really well, and the ends and tips of
the front ones are doing good too. the top is still pretty fuzzy, but at
least it's tight and nappy. None of these silky little loose hairs. I think
I'm gonna start taking out the rubber bands at the ends soon, so another
update will follow when I do that.

freshly showered and soaking wet
Well, the dreadies survived a weekend camping, and we're nearing the two week
mark. I took out the rubberbands for a day, but the ends got incredibly
loose and fuzzy, so I put them back in. These pictures are from my dreads
fresh out of a shower. I don't bother wearing a covering while I'm washing
them, as they seem to have tightened up enough to fend for themselves
against the suds and water. I don't think I'll use the locking accelerator
spray so much anymore, because the salt dries and makes it look like I have
dandruff. Still waxing and gelling, though. I'll be going camping for a
month in a few days, so probably the next time I update, my dreads will be
a little over a month old. Ciao!

Dreads! Bead!

Dreads! And more dreads!
Well, my dreads survived the month camping. Actually, I think they flourished
out in the mountains and the desert. (If you're interested in seeing
pictures from the trip, I'll set up another site and link to here sometime
soon.)I kept them covored by a bandana nearly the entire time and
palmrolled them when I'd have some free time. I don't have any pictures of
the dreadies after a month of no shower, the ones I have up now are from
two days after washing them upon my return home. They're really tightening
up well, I backcombed a few spots and worked the Knotty Boy Gel into 'em,
and things are really going along quite well. I've gotten tons of
compliments on them, and I'm quite proud. I feel very accomplished to have
such strong young dreadlocks. Work hasn't been a problem at all, but I'll
be going to a wedding the first weekend in September, we'll see how the
dreadies go over at such a formal event. Oh, I also threw in a picture of a
hair jewel I made out of thin, coiled wire and a butterfuly charm. I made a
few of 'em, with charms like spiderwebs and pawprints and such. If anyone's
interested, I'd be glad to make one for you. E-mail me if you're
interested.
That's all for tonight. Thanks to everyone who has been visiting my site
and letting me know what they think!

Look! Pretty!

HAH!
Sorry, now you have to look at my face, not just my hair :-P
I took these last night upon the request (read: MAJOR PESTERING! lol just
kidding...) of one of my dreadhead friends. I recieved a really nice
compliment on them the other day too. One of my friends hadn't seen them in
a week and said that they're coming along really nicely. I was thrilled to
hear it. I'll be gone for the weekend at my sister's wedding, but will
deffinetely let everyone know how things went. Oh, and if anyone has a
decent digital camera they'd like to get off their hands, please let me
know. I'm in the market, as it were...

Tizzight Left Side

Right Side Love 'em
I have officially passed the two-month mark with my dreads. Woohoo!
The wedding went wonderfully, and I actually got many compliments on how nice they
looked. The day before, I washed them and then sat out in the California
sun to let them dry while I worked in the KnottyBoy gel. They felt sooo
nice afterwards. Everything has been going really well, even a few of the
loose ones I was worried about art starting to tighten up. I have a few
dreads in the front on the right side of my face that seem to love hanging
right in front of my eyes. I have to band 'em off to the side when I'm
painting, but they're fun. My friend called them 'character dreads'.
Hopefully in another month, I'll be able to dye all of them a pretty dark
reddish color, and they'll be mature enough to have it take. In other news,
I have been noticing a few other dreadhead around town, and it's really
nice to see them walk by on the street and exchange smiles and thumbs-up.
It's like an automatic bond. Great stuff. Enjoy the pics!

Right Side Left Side

Backside, yo Damn these
Just a small update this time. My dreads are finally long enough to pull back
off my face! i haven't been able to do this in months! It feels really
nice. Yay for pigtails, right? lol, I think it looks good. That's all for
now. Thanks once again to all my friends who have messaged me from this
site. Ya'll rock my socks off.

Right Side Left Side

Boom!
I colored my dreads earlier this week. I got a kit of dye that came with a
separate conditioner, so after I rinsed it out, I just left my hair alone
and didn't condition it. The dye dryed out my hair a bit, but my dreads are
tighter now from it, and they don't look brassy and orange any more. I'm
not sure how high quality the pictures are, or how your moniter settings
might distort the color, but they're this warm, dark shade of reddish
brown. My only complaint about my dreads now is that, beacuse my hair has
natural ringlet curls, my dreads are getting wavy in spots where the hair
is looser than the rest. Gives 'em character tho, and palm rolling is
helping a lot. I picked up some new shampoo to use after my supply of
DreadHeadHQ soap is gone, it's this Neutrogena clairifying shampoo...it has
no conditioners, no colors or residues whatsoever. Hopefully it won't screw
me up, lol. And once again, even more love to my dreadhead friends.

The Top The Side Back Thing

Pierced

As of yesterday, I have had my dreads for a whole three months. They're
still holding up really well, getting nicer and tighter. Nothing new to
update, other than the obligatory pictures. Oh, and look! I got my nose
pierced. Check out the full story at BMEzine.com, or just click here.
No, wait, click here. Nevermind, just click here.
Sorry about that. Anyways, that's all for now. Enjoy!

Many more pictures are soon to come, along with updates as my dreads grow and
mature. I'll leave you with some nifty links, fun for the road.
