The Dwarf King Arwald |
In a time long ago, when fantastical beasts roamed the earth there comes the tale of The Dwarf King Arwald. Now, dwarves are interesting creatures. Short, stout, stubborn, yet quick to drink their troubles away. Closest to the earth both spiritually and height wise, these made up the bulk of the Earth Lords’ hardy men. Each dwarf King from the past had a weakness, which eventually overthrew him. Remember that this is a time wherein deeds and physical strength brought you to Kingship. Though ones wealth was increasingly starting to become a popular system of hierarchy in other races and civilizations it wasn’t so in this Kingdom. All were quite content with Arwalds’ rule as the King kept very little for himself and oftentimes would be seen with commoners working the mines or forging armor, which he had a particular interest in it seemed to all. But, like all the other Kings of the past, and unbeknownst to his subjects, his interest was actually an obsession to find the greatest metal in the world, adamant. Though not forcing them too the Wiser King decreed that the empire must dig deeper to find the impervious metal of their ancestors. Within 10 years it was found, though in very small amounts. On the horizon the dark lands whispered with an oncoming war between good and evil. The commoners were getting restless of searching for metal and felt it necessary to ready themselves for war. Arwald agreed but took the metal for himself, hired his most trusted forger and went to work to prepare himself for war. Between sleep, eating, and going down to the forge to help with the making of the armor Arwald also asked the mages of his land to cast a powerful spell on his family heirloom, the battle axe of Aresius. The Kings wishes were granted. Within a year reports came to the Dwarf lands that the Dark Lords sent a letter to the Dwarf King basically saying, “join us or die” the King sent the messenger and a reply letter back saying “We will see you on the battlefield.” The War of Ages had begun and Arwald knew that the Black King would not waste any time. The first battle would be the following day. He mustered his legions together and marched to the field of glory with two secrets, one he wore and the other that glinted in the summer sun… Stout, haughty, yet very quick to drink. Arwald is on the side of good though his needs and dwarfish ways get him into trouble. He has the regality of a king and the stamina of a battle hardened soldier. Like most of his kind his stature and bulk try to make up for his lack of agility. Will of the Dwarf 20 +p Closed Mind The King turned to his fellow dwarves. They all knew what they had to do and have seen this situation before. “I will move towards the enemy, their charge at me is your signal to attack. Many doubted the King’s order but obeyed thinking that they would loose another King. It was the King’s confidence that made them stay put. He proceeded to take broad steps (for a dwarf) towards the middle of the battlefield to face off against the force which was double the size of his own army. Once he reached the center he heard strange whisperings in his ear. Apparently the Dark Lords needed the Dwarven force to conquer the rest of the surrounding lands. The Black Mages were attempting to persuade the King through Magic to join the forces of Darkness. “Heh, you’ll have to do better than that” and the Dwarf slowly raised his battle axe toward the sky… Earthquake 110 Area effect The Battle Axe of Aresius hit the ground. A crack in the ground started at Arwalds feet where the Axe touched and V’ed outwards toward the opposing army. The distance it traveled was long and immense widthwise also and by the time the army new what was going on half them fell into a newly formed Abyss. Arwald then slowly turned the axe which started to close the gap back up. Once closed the army made sure that the first magic attack was over then sounded the alarm for the charge… Adamantium Armor 70 Body Armor The Dark armies’ force was halved by the earthquake just witnessed and the Dwarven army stood amazed yet satisfied with the King and the new hope that he brought them. As an array of arrows filled the sky the orders were given to charge and in turn the stout army followed the King into the field. About a hundred of these arrows were directed right for the King. Arwald saw this first attack and simply stood there and slid the faceplate of his helmet over his face. 50 or more arrows hit their mark but much to the dismay of the Dark War Lords the armor didn’t even scratch. Death mages then raised their arms to the sky and as fast as lightning hurl black fireballs toward Arwald. He didn’t think of black magic but still stood his ground. To his amazement the armor held true without any scorch marks. Arwald readied his Axe and looked at all the victims in front of him. Sword Master 20 The first blow came down with so much force that the soldier was split in two and whence the axe touched the ground again there was a good tremor. It knocked the footing out from underneath the charging dark army and most of the black horses flung off their riders and fled. In the melee that ensued all attention was on Arwald for his family heirloom soaked itself in evil blood. The Axe and the wielder was the dwarves sign of hope throughout the battle. Slashing Attack 25 +p Power in hand hard to loose Arwald was even amazed to find that his weapon was lighter now that many spells were cast upon it. The Axe could easily swipe a path through many enemies at once, and did. The armies of the dark King were defeated, but not his mages. Three of the most powerful brought a searing attack upon the dwarves. Only Arwald was able to get close enough to deliver blows, for his earth mages were too slow to rush into battle. He killed the three of them but he didn’t realize that they would become even more powerful in death. Cold winds came over the battlefield, and just as the dwarf army had thoughts victory an icy waterfall from the heavens rained down on their King, entombing him in ice, waiting for the Death spell to be broken… Years past, and the spell had broken, the place was the barren tundra landscape of what is now called Khazan… |

Arwald was one of my longest original works characters. Has all your basic dwarf like features and he did very well despite the fact that he went up against 3 characters who are now in the HoF. He never lost by a large amount and I might bring him back under a different picture. |
