PVHC was founded in 1991 by Ray Tibbetts at his store called Backpacking Etc. It was Ray's hope that he could generate some business for his store by starting a hiking and backpacking club. Backpacking Etc. was originally located in West Springfield, Massachusetts, and subsequently moved to Agawam. (The Pioneer Valley is located in western Massachusetts along the Connecticut River.) Although Ray's store closed in the year 2000, PVHC lives on. The club is now affiliated with Wilderness Experiences Unlimited in Southwick, and currently has over 200 members. The club's mission is to provide outdoor recreation activities centered around hiking in New England. We try to provide activities at all experience levels. We are also committed to good land stewardship, low impact camping and have accepted the maintenance of M&M Trail sections 1 and 2. |
