promoted to Full Principle Musician. Several other band members were from Baltimore German immigrant community as well. These band members were apparently recruited along the way near DC in July 1861.They were mustered out when the Feds stopped paying for infantry bands. Does anyone know whether Conrad Muhl was from Baden? And if so, which town.If he palyed in an orchestra?
Chuck Steidel" Second Post: Conrad Muhl, b. 1823, was from Hesse Darmstadt. I believe he was related to Lewis Muhl,b. 1819, perhaps a brother. They are both from Hesse Darmstadt. They joined up as the Michigan infantry passed by Baltimore I presume. Conrad Muhl was listed as a principle musician in Ancestry.com record.
My greatgrandfather came to the US about 1851 as a 21 year old musician from a musical family. He eventually became a hosse painter.I do not know if he knew Conrad Muhl before their enlistment about june ,1861.
