Traces of the Mind, Penn Wood's annual literary magazine, is staffed by students and advised by an English teacher. In 2002 the magazine over went a few changes when the advisor changed. Mrs. Murphy, who had been running the magazine smoothly, retired. Ms. Gardner, a new teacher at Penn Wood and alumni, took her position as advisor to the students.
The magazine staff begins meetings in October when submissions are being accepted. All submissions are done anonymously. None of the reviewing staff know whose poems, short stories, prose, or essays they are reading.
Submissions stop being accepted by Winter Break. By the time everyone gets back from break and settle down after midterms all the submissions have been read and reviewed. By the end of February, the only thing left to do is get the magazine together. All the remaining submissions are put in order. The National Art Honors Society help to illustrate Traces of the Mind in the spring.
The magazine is published in May for $2.50. Sponsors and published writers recieve a free copy.
Want to see some of the poems that get published? Okay, you can see them just because you're such a nice person. Onto the poems!
