Many thanks to Patti and Karen at the the thenewmonkees Yahoo! Group... for making this past weekend's New Monkees reunion gathering a resounding success, and thanks to Dino, Marty, Larry, and Jared for being the New Monkees, being there, and just being a fantastic bunch of guys! Y'all rock big time!
(Pictures will be posted when available)

Background is "Daydream Believer" by the Monkees... okay, the New Monkees sounded nothing like this, but there just ain't any New Monkees MIDIs out there... most of the info on this page was gotten off Mike Larsen's New Monkees page, which was the only other New Monkees page on the 'net (but it seems to have disappeared)... the pics are all mine, so please ask before using...

I seem to be one of the few people out there who was willing to give the New Monkees a chance from Day One... when I heard that there was going to be a New Monkees, I figured, what the hey... it's got possibilities... then, I found a picture of the guys in one of those teen fan magazines that I used to buy, and I couldn't wait for the show to come on the air...

When I saw the show for the first time in 1987, it didn't disappoint... I loved the music, and I loved the wackiness of the adventures of Marty, Jared, Dino, and Larry... it's just a crying shame that no one else (for the most part) was willing to give them the same chance that I was... the show ended after only 13 episodes...

I still have a few episodes of the show on videotape (wherever the tape is in all my stuff)... I have the album on tape, and I now have a CD copy (many thanks to Jay Nations)! my copy of the shows included commercials, so watching the episodes was a great time capsule (anyone remember Benders hair curlers? Pazzazz Sheer Hair Colorwash? 976 numbers?)... UPDATE! I now have the entire New Monkees series on DVD! Thanks D.K.!

Unlike the original Monkees, the New Monkees did know how to play their instruments before the show started... as a matter of fact, sons of such people as Donovan and Mike Nesmith (yes, THAT Mike Nesmith) tried out to become a New Monkee... in the end, they chose...

Larry Saltis

Larry was the youngest of the New Monkees at age 18, and he played lead guitar and did most of the lead vocals... he was from Akron, Ohio, and was portrayed as the sweet mama's boy... Larry's hair was the best (pure 80's big hair!), especially the long red braid that he had (think Jedi Padawan braid), which inspired the blonde one that I had for years... the picture on the left is Larry as he looked as a New Monkee... the pic in the middle is Larry circa mid 90's... at that time, he, his brother Heath, and their friend Tim Paul were a melodic rock band that was known as both Colorvine and Tower City... no matter what you called them, they rocked! Larry was also part-owner of a soup and salad joint in Akron called Gourmet Greens... it had been one of the most happenin' places in town, then Larry sold off his share before Gourmet Greens closed up shop... Larry also collaborated with fellow Ohio resident Lino Alessio and plays on Lino's latest album, Satin Blue... the pic on the right shows drummer John Vogel, Lino, and Larry... thanks to J.C. for the info... currently, Larry is retired from the music biz, but he's not opposed to future musical projects if the timing's right...

Dino Kovas

Dino hailed from Dearborn, Michigan, and he played the drums... his character was the mischievous imp... the only time he sang lead for the New Monkees was for their theme song, "Turn It Up"... after the show ended, Dino went to film school and is now a filmmaker and works at SFX house Rhythm & Hues... I am in sporadic e-mail contact with Dino, and he's a cool guy to converse with... the pic to the left is Dino circa 1987... the pic to the right is Dino and his daughter Salena circa 2000... aren't they cute together? Salena is now a big sister to brother Viggo...

Dino's first short film, called "In The Bag," is now on-line at iFilm! Go to the link below and check it out... please cast your vote, then pass the link on to your friends!

Jared Chandler

Southern California native Jared played rhythm guitar... his character was the brainy surfer boy... he has been busy since the end of the New Monkees... he went to UCLA, did a stint in the military, and got married (to Courtney Gebhart, who, incidentally played "Lisa," a girl from inside the TV, in an NMs episode)... he now works as a military technical advisor, actor, and stuntman for major movie studios... more recent works include XXX: State Of The Union and the hit NBC show "E-Ring"... Jared has also written, directed, and produced a film called Poet's War, a short film due for release on October 31, 2007...

Marty Ross

At 28, Marty was the oldest New Monkee... he was originally from Rockport, Illinois, and was the New Monkees' bass player... his character was one egg short of a dozen... before becoming one of the New Monkees, he was a member of the Wigs, who had a part in the Deborah Foreman movie My Chauffeur, among others... Marty sang lead on the songs "Boy Inside The Man" and "Affection"... these days, Marty does musical scores for TV and movies (he even did some work for one of Dino's films)... he also hangs out a good bit at the thenewmonkees Yahoo! Group... pop in, and you may get to chat with him!

The Wigs were supposedly talking about a reunion... not much info aside from this announcement... thanks to J.C. for the info!

Apart from this page, there is not much info about the New Monkees out there, but I do want to call attention to Jamie's much excellent New Monkees site... Jamie actually worked on the show with the guys, and his site is an archive of materials he acquired while working on the show, including rarely-seen behind-the-scenes pics... click on the New Monkees logo below to go there!

Intrinsicsmile.com had been the home of a few New Monkees videos available for download, but the site has since disappeared... but never fear! Dino has graciously uploaded plenty of New Monkees goodness to YouTube for all to enjoy... just do a search for "New Monkees" on YouTube, and you'll find a treasure trove of New Monkees videos, show appearances, previously unreleased footage, and even rare clips of Dino and his buddy Stiv Hrnjak hosting "Back Porch Video"!

For those of you who until now didn't know who the New Monkees were, I hope this will have helped introduce you to this group who were forgotten too soon... maybe inspire you to try and find their music... and if you do have a New Monkees CD or cassette out there, plug in and TURN IT UP!
