The Backslidden Psalm Twenty-Two
~~~~~~~~~~
 
"These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from
me"   Matt. 15:8
 
I penned this piece almost a decade ago. It came to me while
meditating on the 22nd psalm as the Lord began to speak the words in
reverse to me. I sensed it was the cry from God's heart to his
children who were too choked up with the cares of this world to share
his heart -beat or be useful in his program for the nations. I
believe this is still his cry today to me and you today.
 
The Backslidden Psalm Twenty-Two
My son, my son,
why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from assisting me
and from the cry of my heart?
O my son, I cry in the daytime
but you cannot hear
and in the night time
and yet I am still crying
 
Yet you are my sheep
and was created to hear only my voice.
Your fathers stood by me,
they inclined unto me
and carried my burden.
I cried unto them
and was not disappointed.
But now I am forgotten by men
despised of the people
and my Name is reproached among the nations
 
My enemies laugh to scorn:
they shout out the lip,
they shake the head, saying
"He trusted on this man to do his will;
Let him do it now
seeing he claims to 'love his Jesus' !"
 
But I was the One that redeemed you.
You surely made me hope
when you first loved me
I counted on you right from the start
I became your God
and invested in you
 
O my son,
make now yourself available
hear and attend to my cry
or I'd have no other choice
but to use a stone!

Do we share God's heart-cry? If we do then our chief preoccupation
would be to see him enthroned Lord first in our lives and then in our
world. Our heart-cry would become "Thy kingdom come". Is Jesus really
Lord in our lives? In our desires and pursuits? Can God use us? Are
we available? Does it ever bother us to hear that over 3,000 ethnic
groups in the world are still without the gospel? Who cares that
Jesus died for them too?  Are we zealous for him to reign or are we
busy pursuing our own ambitions and building our own kingdoms?
 
God is looking for an army. Men and women through whom he can '
silence the foe and the avenger. ' God wants to make you and me his
battle axe for the nations. May the Lord find us dependable.
