Understanding Our Jewish Roots

Many of us christians do not understand our Jewish roots or understand if they are important or not. Several years ago, the Holy Spirit convinced me that I needed to understand my christian roots if I was to really know the truth about God's word and understand the scriptures as I should.

I studied many of the various christian groups to see which ones were the closest to the New Testiment Christian groups. I found that the Morman church observed all the festivals and had it's own temple; and so, were close as well as the World Wide Church of God which did the same. However, all of these groups were exclusive. They were not open to just anyone. I, being from a Baptist background, found that hard to understand. I believed that the New Testiment taught that a person was saved and baptized into the church as we did. I couldn't find where the new believers were made to become a special group like these churchs of today do.

Finally, I asked the Lord and He gently asked, "Why not go back to your roots?" Well, I had never thought of that! How was I to go back to my roots? I knew absolutely nothing about Jewish ways or beliefs. I had ignored that. Was it really necessary? How would I start? He started me back in Genesis, the begining!!! "But, Lord, I have studied this many times before! What are you trying to tell me?" He did not answer; so, I continued to study.

As I studied, I began to see just how important those festivals were as they pointed to His comings!!! This arroused my curiosity even more. Several years later on Trinity Broadcasting Network I heard Joseph Good, another Baptist whom the Lord had called to teach the Jewish Festivals and how they relate to Christianity, tell how the Lord had called him about the same time that He had called me. I was amazed; but felt that God had confirmed what He had been teaching me all these years.

I have become convinced that we need to both understand and co-operated with the Messianic Jewish group if we can't join them. Many of us in the Church of The Lord Jesus Christ are not ready for that yet; but one day we might!!!
