Well! Alot of shit
has been going on since
my last page update. Still
no "official"
Download for v. 1.02.c, but
trust me, It
should be up soon. Wow, iv'e
done so much
new stuff with the engine
i hardly know where
to begin! Ive made a map
editor for the rpg.
Its making my life a hell
of alot easier. :)
I also started working
on the battle engine.
There are new screenshot
in the screenshot
section of the page. Chect
them out. All the
Graphics are getting completley
redone too.
I'm making 100% sure
that this new release
will blow everyone away!
Even more than the
origonal release did. :)

History of QBRPG:
QBRPG is a project that i
started as of
January 1, 2001. My mission?
To do the
impossible. Make a full interactive
RPG
using pure QB code. If you
are a member of
the QB community then You
probly know that
every QB game that was ever
worth looking at
twice, most definetly used
asm to boost
preformance, functionality,
whatever. And I
would have to agree. Think
about it. Shadow
of Power, Untitled rpg, ZETA,
all excellent
proof that a real game can
be made in QB.
And they all have at least
one thing in
common. They all use assembly.
The only
exception I would make would
have to be Dark
Ages the Continents. But
come on. Thats not
exacly what I'd call good
game play.
But personally, I have nothing
agains the
use of ASM in QB. Quite the
contrary. I think
it is a great tool to really
speed up the
preformance and overall quality
of your game.
However, sadly most people
use ASM libraries
like DirectQB and Future
Library to make up
for their bad programming
skills. These
people are the very reson
that we have so
many of these unfinished
RPG demo's laying
around on the net. Not that
im not guilty
myself because I will be
the first to admit
that im not the best programmer.
And libs do
really make programming easier.
But I don't
think you should ever use
a library function
or ASM routine unless you
know how to write
it yourself. Anyways, enough
rambling. About
the project...
QBRPG is a RPG engine im
writing in Pure
Qbasic code. I am not using
any libraries or
ASM routines of any kind.
I want to prove
that you CAN make a good
game in QB without
LIBS or Assembly. Having
said all that Lets
move on to my progress...
Progress with QBRPG:
(In order from newest to
oldest)
QBRPG Beta v. 1.02.c Information:
- Well, as for the Febuary
1st Deadline.
It's probably going to be
either pushed
back because my artist has
suddenly dis-
appeared and i can't finish
the new graphics
without his help. Or I will
just release
the new demo without the
redone graphics.
I can't Really Decide.
I Did manage to get
a new installer
program togeather. It is
a pain in the ass
to configure (I accidently
deleted this
web page of my hard drive
trying to put
togeather a install program.)
Hehe. :)
With the help of NetherGoth,
I got the
problems fixed with the sound
engine. I
guess i will let you all
in on a little
secret. If you really want
to see the new
Special-FX engine, you can
get a pre beta
peek at the new engine i'm
working on Here.
- This version will not be
released until
I fix some unresolved issues
with the sound
engine, special fx engine,
and the
installation program which
is no longer
operational. The estimated
date of release
is Febuary 01, 2001.
The last beta version 1.01.c,
is also no
longer availible because
of some issues
with my server. So you will
just have to
wait for the release of the
next version
which will feature some pretty
cool
"extra's," such as rain,
thunder,
lightning, and new graphics
as well as the
introduction of a nice plot...
QBRPG Beta v. 1.02.c Information:
- Because of problems with
the sound engine
and the installation program,
I have no
choice but to temporarily
take down QBRPG
off the net. But don't be
sad. This new
release will be up soon and
will be better
than ever. :)
QBRPG Beta v.1.01.c Demo Release:
- New easy Windows installer
for QBRPG

everybody!

Detection

little bugs that were causing

New Screenshots:
- New
engine screenshot (v. 1.02.c)
- New
Titlescreen (Under development)
- This
is a screenshot of the 3D engine im
developing
to be the arena for the battles.
Notice
the hardware accelerated 3D. The nice
texture
mapped antialaised polygons. The cool
fog
in the distance. :) No the battle engine
is
not QB before you ask. Its a Win32 exe.
Takes
advantage of Direct3D and hardware
acceleration
when its availible.
