DIARRHEA (Massage Therapy) GENERAL EXPLANATION: Diarrhea is a symptom manifested through increased bowel movements, loose stools and even watery stools. It can occur in conjunction with various diseases. Acute diarrhea occurs mostly during the summer and autumn and is often related to unclean food and cold epidemics. Chronic diarrhea occurs often in chronic enteritis, colitis, gastrointestinal dysfunction and other general problems and lingers for a long time and is accompanied by intermittent diarrhea accompanied by indigestion and poor appetite. Massage therapy can regulate the intestinal peristalsis, promote the secretion of digestive juices in the intestines, warm and tonify the spleen and stomach, disperse dampness, and stop diarrhea. NOTES: 1. It is necessary to keep the abdomen and lumbosacral region warm and avoid overfatigue. 2. It is advisable to pay attention to dietary intake and not advisable to eat uncooked, cold, greasy and indigestible food. 3. It is advisable to find out the unreasonable cause of chronic diarrhea and follow the related treatment according to the cause. TREATMENT: 1. Slowly push the abdomen with the palm from Zhongwan(RN-12) downwards to Guanyuan(RN-4) 30 times. 2. Knead Zhongwan(RN-12), Qihai(RN-6) and Guanyuan(RN-4) with the thenar 300 times each. 3. Knead the umbilicus and Tinshu with the fingers 300 times each. 4. Rub the abdomen counterclockwise 300 times. 5. Push the back with the palm downwards from Pishu(BL-20) to Dachangshu(BL-25) 30 times. 6. Press and knead Pishu(BL-20), Weishu(BL-21), Shenshu(BL-23), Dachangshu(BL-25), and Changqiang(DU-1) 100 times each. 7. Chafe the lumbosacral region. 8. Press and knead Zusanli(ST-36) and Shangjuxu on both sides 30 times each until a sore and distending sensation is felt. SUPPLEMENT: 1. Acute Diarrhea Accompanied by Fever: Grasp Fengchi(GB-20), Jianjing(GB-21), Quchi(LI-11) and Hegu(LI-4) 30 times each. 2. Improper Food Intake: Rub the abdomen clockwise: 3. Liver Qi Stagnation: Chafe the hypochondrium obliquely until a slightly warm sensation is felt. Press and knead Zhangmen(LR-13), Ganshu(BL-18), Danshu(BL-19) and Taichong(LR-3) 30 times each. 4. Yang deficiency in the spleen and kidney: Prolong the time in kneading Qihai(RN-6) and Guanyuan(RN-4). Chafe Shenshu(BL-23) and Mingmen(DU-4). |
