(Massage Therapy)
GENERAL EXPLANATION:
It is a condition which the cleft between the bilateral glottides is over 1mm. It is usually seen in singers and other vocalists and is caused by over use of the voice and improper sound production which can result in hypotony of the vocal muscles and congestion and adema of laryngeal mucosa. The clinical manifestations are dysphonia and a horse voice accompanied by a sore throat and a sensation of a foreign body. Massage therapy can relax the laryngeal muscle, eliminate tension in the threat, and clean the throat.
NOTES:
1. It is advisable to lightly and gently manipulate the techniques on the front of the neck and avoid violent force.
2. It is advisable to avoid speaking loudly and continuously, catching cold, and eating spicy and dry food.
TREATMENT:
1. Push or grasp the three lateral lines in the throat back and forth (the first lateral line: 0.3cm lateral to the Adam’s apple and downwards; the third lateral line: 0.5cm lateral to the Adam’s apple and downwards; the second lateral line: the midway of the first and third lateral lines and downwards) for 5 to 10 minutes.
2. Knead Renying(ST-9), Shuitu(ST-10) and the tenderness in the throat for 50 to 100 times each.
3. Press Fengfu(DU-16), Yamen and Fengchi(GB-20) for 50 to 100 times each.
4. Grasp Fengchi(GB-20) and both sides of the cervical vertebrae back and forth for 5 times.
5. Knead the bilateral Stemocleidomastoideus for 5 minutes. After treatment, the laryngeal muscle can be relaxed with a moist sensation in the laryngeal mucosa.
