GENESIS
INDEX
THE FIRST ELEVEN
CHAPTERS OF GENESIS, THE FIRST BOOK OF THE PENTATEUCH, IS THE FOCUS OF MUCH GRIEF FOR
BELIEVERS IN THE MODERN AGE
In this book the
beginnings of the history of the Jewish people is covered, which begins officially with
Abram in Chapter 12. Prior to Abram Genesis purports to be the history of all life on
Earth - important human events being the Creation, Fall, Murder/Alienation, Flood and
Tower.
A lot of theology is built on
these early chapters because in Chapter 3 the first humans lose their original immortality
and become condemned to the hard lives of dirt farmers. On this foundation Saint Paul then builds his understanding of the
significance of Jesus, while other writers mention the world-wide Flood of Noah and its
analogy with the global destruction they believed was coming very soon when Jesus returned
to bring in His Kingdom.
Because some Christians and
Jews believe these early books of the Bible to be true accounts of actual events, and
foundational to their understanding of God, they try to deny the facts which have been
uncovered by Science about the natural and human worlds. Other believers try to modifiy
their understanding of the Bible and its origins to fit in the possibility that the Bible
is inaccurate, an inspired but painfully human document of faith.
