My name is Nickalena (Lena) Quagliato. I was born in Vernmont in 1987 and was raised in Colorado, where I fell in love with the country life. Due to the amazing people I knew who lived the old-fashioned ranching lives I have a special place in my artwork for them. Since January of 2005 I have lived in Missouri and discovered a landscape filled with dairy farms, rocks, and green grass, which was very different, but equally inspiring as the landscapes in Colorado.
I have been drawing ever since I can remember and have been trying my hand at painting since I was twelve or thirteen. My favorite subjects, of course,  are animals, and people but I like to paint anything that is beautiful. I like to capture moments in my artwork -- sometimes moments that only I have experienced but are hopefully beatiful to everyone. I also love experimenting with light, composition and subject matter. I work mostly in acrylic, but I have also done some things in water color, pastel and colored pencil as well as latex house paint.
I have been entering art shows ever since I started painting. In 2003 I won a People's Choice award from a show at the Spanish Peaks Art Council for my painting, 'Horse Wash'. In 2004 I was accepted into the juried art show at the Colorado State Fair. I began my experience with large scale painting in 1998  when I participated in my first mural with the Boys and Girl's Club in Rocky Ford. Shortly after my Mother and I painted an indoor mural on commission. Since I moved to Missouri I have had the oportunity to do large scale paintings on my own, including some signs, as well as an 8 x 28' mural.
Some of my commercial work has been put on the back burner since I have started attending school at College of the Ozarks in Branson Missouri, but I wouldn't trade it for everything I am learning as an Art student there. By working in the college art department and Majoring in Studio Art I hope to learn all that I can. Even after I graduate in Spring of 2010, I hope to never stop experimenting  with my artwork.
