Machine Head

I was pondering this album a while ago...I do believe it is one of my favorite albums. Ever. It's darned good for something that's often considered metal! Actually, I wouldn't say it's metal...just pretty hard rock. Eh, it's metal.

I think that everyone likes this album. Come on, let's all admit it! Everyone likes Machine Head! This was my first Deep Purple album. I got it the same day that I got Van Halen (the album, that is). So you could say that was a pretty metally day. Two metal albums at once? That's unheard of!...if you're me. But I'm glad I got this one. It's awesometastic!

Highway Star: This is generally considered the first speed-metal song, right? It could be. It's speedy, and it's metal! (Arguably...) Whatever way you slice it, it's still fantastic. This song really does a good job of getting my adrenaline going. I used to think, well, maybe it's just really good, except then I listened to it after trying to play a real fast song of my own invention. Then I realized how good they had to be to have to play this! I also like the story behind it: someone asked them how they wrote songs, and the guitarist fellow just picked up a guitar and began playing. Then the singer started singing. So they had it. Wooh, they are good.

Maybe I'm a Leo: I always knew there was something interesting about that riff. Now I know what it is: it doesn't start on the "down" note, like almost every other riff there is. It's a pretty good song. I also like the line "maybe I'l a leo, but I'm not a lion". Good for you, fellow, knowing what you are from what you aren't.

Pictures of Home: Here's another good, fast, cool-awesome song! The lyrics are pretty good, and it sounds like it would be really fun to perform for a concert or something. It really does give me the impression that he's far from home, running away from - something.

Never Before: This isn't one of the album's high points to me. But it's still pretty good. It has some rather cool lyrics in it.

Smoke On the Water: I really don't understand why this song is such a classic. I guess it's pretty good, and the riff is relatively catchy. (If you think about it...) Yeah, pretty good song.

Lazy: Okay...so what do I have to say about this song? It's - pretty good, the longest song on here, I think...not that that matters about anything. It's just a fact. Actually, I think this song sounds anything but lazy, what with that cool playing and all. Deep Purple are decidedly good musicians.

Space Trucking: Aww, now what? The album's almost over! Aaah! (This is actually rather a sad fact for me.) But heck, it's a good way to conclude the album. Something inside me wants to say that this song almost sounds similar to Highway Star. Eh, probably not. Actually, I'm thinking about it now, and I think that this is one of the few songs where the singer can start screaming lyrics and I almost appreciate it. Nifty. Nifty record!

Best tracks: Highway Star, Maybe I'm a Leo, Smoke on the Water, and Space Trucking.
