Morrison Hotel

So - this was my first Doors album. And, to be honest, it was rather good. It set a couple high expectations on my part for the rest of their catalogue. That's not really a bad thing. (Although, it kind of led to some interesting thoughts about Waiting for the Sun.) I used to think this record was the best thing since sliced bread. It isn't really. But then again, I seem to think about pretty much any new album when I get it. Curiously, I have less to say about this album than I do about Waiting For the Sun. I have no clue how that is.

But it's a pretty good album anyway.

Roadhouse Blues: Cool, a blues song. I like blues songs. They're cool. From the very beginning of this song, I smiled and thought, "Yeah, I like this." Or at least, that's pretty much what I did. Heck, it's a good song! I somehow doubt the Doors themselves actually wrote this, but it's still good.

Waiting for the Sun: Okay, all I have to ask is: why didn't this appear two albums earlier? I mean, if you're going to call a song the same thing as an album, why don't you put it on that album? (Then again - I don't like title tracks, so then I guess it's not as bad as it seems. Besides, I don't get after Led Zeppelin for Houses of the Holy or Queen for Sheer Heart Attack.) So this song is quite good, especially the part just before where he sings the title. It just sounds cool. It sounds almost as though it wants to tell some story that it isn't telling us already. I dunno, songs do weird things like that to me.

You Make Me Real: Yeah! This is a good song! It's got a good beat, a cool riff, and that little piano part is even appreciated this time! (Sometimes it doesn't really add much at all when they add stuff like that.) It makes me feel like dancing, almost! Which is something I almost never feel like doing! Woot!

Peace Frog: They were going to call it Abortion Stories, I think. I'm glad they called it Peace Frog instead. Even though I have no idea what the title means now. Maybe I'm not supposed to. Yeah, probably not. I find it funny how this song is about blood in the streets and stuff except it sounds so cheery (for what it is). Hee hee, Peace Frog indeed.

Blue Sunday: Isn't it funny that this song goes so well with Peace Frog, yet they sound pretty much nothing like each other? Ah, such a lovely sentimental song. And I actually do think that.

Ship of Fools: I identify well with this song for some reason. Well, if the whole world's a ship of fools, then the human race is bound to die out! (And sadly, I think the majority of the world, or at least America, is inhabited by a Ship of Fools.) It's a pretty nifty song.

Land Ho!: This song kind of reminds me of Ship of Fools. I'm not totally sure why, but it might have something to do with the fact that they both sound like they're about sailing. Wait, I know how they're connected! Since the human race is dying out, they're going to find a new place to live! Yeah! It's a good, adventurous song, and it seems to be telling an interesting story.

The Spy: This song doesn't really stand out too much to me, really. I don't know why, but it just doesn't. It's okay, though. It's not like I always want to skip it or anything.

Queen of the Highway: My friend is convinced the song is about RV's. Just because of the title. I tried to convince her it doesn't. (Actually, she's a trifle preoccupied with the idea of RV's anyway.) This is kind of a cool song, with interesting lyrics. (Actually, almost all the Doors' lyrics are interesting, ever noticed that?)

Indian Summer: This is sort of a nice, sentimental slow song. It makes me feel sentimental, sort of, like the song. It's actually quite relaxing, especially considering that it comes right after Queen of the Highway. It goes on for as much time as it ought to, too.

Maggie McGill: I don't understand half of this song. But that doesn't matter a lot to me. Yeah, here we see the Doors showing us what they can do with their lyrics. It's a little bit like Five to One, from Waiting for the Sun, but not as personal. Or not as harsh, either. Yeah. I like this.

Best tracks: Roadhouse Blues, Waiting for the Sun, Peace Frog, and Land Ho
