My Writing Process
In a comparison, my writing process is like sitting and talking with a friend. I find myself writing as if I'm speaking in a casual atmosphere, which has proven to be a good thing in certain projects.
When I wrote my first paper which was a personal experience account, I could not help but to write as though I was talking to some one I trusted with a piece of my life. I felt comfortable in doing so mostly because I chose what area of my life I wanted to share. However, when I wrote the "Summary of an Online Article" paper I found it difficult and thought I would get a bad "rating" on it. The topic was to summarize an article about a non-profit organization that did not have a missionary purpose; which was something I did not pay attention to in everyday life. When I researched the topic I had a hard time finding an article about an organization; most of them only mentioned a name. I read the teacher?s instructions over and over and still was not sure if I was doing what he wanted the class to do on this project. Had I been able to choose the organization regardless to its purpose I probably wouldn't have had such a hard time. To me that project was like trying to make small talk with a stranger. I don't really enjoy talking to strangers about nothing.
Now, when we did the project on the web sites, that was fun. I enjoyed exploring the sites the instructor chose, mostly because he's funny and he picked some funny sites. That project called for my opinion, which I always enjoy giving (when asked, of course.)
The projects to follow proved to be about the same as the first; with the exception of some mechanical errors I made during the writing process. These mistakes involved stuff like putting a capitol letter where it didn't belong, (just not paying attention) excessive use of semi colons, (I like them, okay) not being specific with certain facts, incorrect works cited entries, and so on. Well, that (in my opinion) is like talking to an ENGLISH teacher. Or your mother saying, "There's no such word as ain't!"
The need I feel to write in an almost intimate manner probably comes from reading so many novels. Keeping my "world" small plays a major part in it also, I'm sure. In writing this paper I've been very informal; that probably isn't a good technique to use when writing papers for English class.
In the fall I plan to take speech 101 in which I will be expected to produce not only oral but written projects as well. Hopefully I'll get to know everyone in my class so I'll still feel that level of comfort I need to present satisfactory work.
In closing I would like to say that I felt very comfortable writing this paper and I hope that it was comfortable to read (?).
