This is my wee little Cosette tribute. Cosette is a character from the book/musical Les Miserables and hardly anyone likes her, probably because she's one of the very few characters in the story to have a happy ending. Anyway, here I have lots o' lyrics, some of the orginal French stuff, and the orginal English lyrics as well. On the bottom you'll find links to where I found my information. Here's most of "The Love Montage" that was changed before the show went to Broadway, containing "I Saw Him Once", the orginal version of "In My Life", and "A Heart Full of Love" I Saw Him Once (Cosette stands in her garden on Rue Plumet) Cosette: How strange how curious, how secret, and how vain This change Till now I've seen myself as rather plain What is happening to you Cosette? Why you don't even know his name Or (?) and nothing feels the same I saw him once Then he was gone We were like dreamers at night Who meet as in a trance then part again Two phantoms in the shadows of the moon Can people really fall in love so soon? He walked alone He seemed alone like me Could he have known That moment was my destiny? I had to run away, And it was like a dream. For there are dreams which do come true I saw him once and once will do! (There is a sound at the gate) Dearest papa! Can I tell him of this? How can I tell him the things that I feel? How could he understand? A Heart Full of Love Marius: A heart full of love! A heart full of song! I'm doing everything all wrong Oh God, for shame! I do not even know your name. Dear mad'moiselle I am lost in your spell. Cosette: A heart full of love Both: A heart full of you! Marius: The words are foolish but they're true. Cosette! Cosette! Or were we dreaming when we met? Cosette: Who can say? Marius: Who can tell? Cosette: A heart full of love! A heart full of you! Marius: I saw you waiting and I knew. Cosette: Waiting for you! Marius: At your feet. Cosette: At your call. Both: And it isn't a dream. Not a dream after all! |

Anyone else find it interesting that she never told him her name? <---------- |

Eponine: (interjections) He was never mine to lose. Why regret what could not be? There are words he'll never say. Not to me Not to me, not for me. His heart full of love He will never feel this way! |

Mon Prince est en Chemin~My Prince is on The Path | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Cosette: Dans la Vie ~Cosette: In Life Cosette: In life I lack nothing But I miss someone my own age Is his far away, still so far The handsome prince on the path Of my childhood dream, in his cage. Jean Valjean: My child, and me who thinks you a child There is not handsome prince charming on this earth Cosette: But you were the prince of my childhood Another must come in my adolescence. In my life, Neither grief nor sorrow But I don't have the heart of happiness Not the heart of happiness Jean Valjean: Happiness is a gift of God To each at his time, At his time. Marius: Dans la Vie~Marius: In Life Marius: In life If I lack everything, I miss nothing when before her She is there, near me, My princesse in the garden, a rose in hand, unreal I had thought To have lost her forever And behold Éponine is transformed into a good fairy The good Lord, sometimes, is a great magician Santa Claus misleadingly coming in the month of June And life, Suddenly in a flash of lightening, Horsewhips my heart When death still inhabited me yesterday Éponine: Happiness makes the poor richer And makes the rich better . . . better |

"My Prince is on the Path" is the orginal version of "Castle on a Cloud" and can be heard on the Orginal French Concept Recording Little Cosette: They will come soon, and I am not done Mopping, scrubbing, and polishing the floor And then, without a rest, I will go serve as well Yet she will beat me all the same. I know, but I am used to it And it is no worse than my loneliness My prince in on the path right now I don't know what he'll be like But I know he will come tomorrow My prince is already on the way. With one sweep of my magic broom He appears if I want him to In a murmur of music And I travel in his eyes. All children have a childhood A family and toys It's all or nothing, good luck or very bad I have neither father, mother, nor doll My prince is on the path right now I don't know what he'll be like But I know he will come tomorrow My prince is already on the way. . . . It's all or nothing, good luck or very bad I have neither father, mother, nor doll lalala . . . my prince is already on the path They will come soon, and I am not done Mopping, scrubbing and polishing the floor My god, there's Mme Thénardier |
