Top 13 Reasons to STOP Dieting
1. Diets Don’t Work. Even if you lose weight, you will probably gain it all back, and you may gain back more than you lost. 2. Diets are expensive. If you didn’t buy diet products, you could spend your money on other things that make you happy. 3. Diets are boring. People on diets talk and think about food and practically nothing else. There is a lot more to life! 4. Diets don’t make you beautiful, and are not sexy. Glamour and style is a look, not a size. Very few people will ever look like models, and you don’t have to be thin to be attractive. If you’d like to be more attractive, take care of you body, you appearance, and your attitude towards yourself. 5. Diets don’t necessarily improve you health. Some people limit eating certain thing because of health problems, but the improvement is usually due to change in food, not any weight loss that may occur. Furthermore, dieting can make some health problems much worse. 6. Dieting ruins self-esteem and reinforces body hatred. Constantly measuring up to an extreme ideal causes feelings of failure and worthlessness. Judge yourself by the things that really matter, not the size of your jeans. 7. Diets can cause weight obsession and can turn into eating disorders. The obsession to be thin at any cost can lead to anorexia, bulimia, bingeing and compulsive exercising. 8. Diets can make you afraid of food. Food nourishes and comforts us, and gives us pleasure. Dieting can make food seem to be an enemy, and deprive you of all the positive aspects of food. 9. Diets can rob you of energy. You need good nutrition and adequate fuel to meet you body’s needs to lead a full and active life. Also, reducing food intake can cause deficiencies in vitamins and other nutrients. 10. Dieting perpetuate fatphobia. Fear of fatness can lead to hatred and mistreatment of fat people, and there is enough hatred in the world already. 11. Dieting is social control of women. Think of the wonders that could be achieved if all women stopped spending their money., energy, and thought on dieting and started spending it on solving the world’s problems. 12. Dieting supports an oppressive industry. With over $40 billion dollars per year, we keep the diet industry going; they pay us back by creating more self-hatred and insecurity. 13. Learning to love and accept yourself just as you are will give you self-confidence, better health, and a sense of well-being that will last a lifetime- and it won’t cost a penny. |
