Anime Series:
Lee & Sakura from "Card Captors"
With sword in hand and unique vestments, Lee seeks to capture all the cards. In the beginning of the series, he is insensitive and cold towards others, as well as hostile towards his childhood friend, Meiling.
Sakura's just a typical 10 year-old girl who just so happens to carry the burden of having to capture the clow cards she released. Sakura is aided by the guardian beast, Kero, and uses a key staff to seal the cards.
As mentioned, Lee is at first apprehensive toward Sakura and considers her as his main rival. But as the story progresses and he befriends her, he becomes one of her greatest allies in capturing the cards. He also becomes kinder towards her. They develop feelings for each other later in the series.
A love triangle forms around Lee, Sakura, and Meiling, who is constantly jealous of Sakura and the attention Lee gives her. But she and Sakura do become friends. Meiling doesn't possess any special magical abilities, but is a gifted fighter in the martial arts.
Spike & Julia from "Cowboy Bebop"
A bounty hunter by trade, Spike has a shady past with ties to the Chinese Mafia group, the Red Dragons. And although he has long left his life of crime, he has yet to escape from his old organization entirely or his ex-comrade, the gray-haired Vicious.
Originally the girlfriend of Vicious, Julia is Spike's mysterious lost love that only appears in the flashbacks of his memories together. She is the reason for the bitter rivalry between the two men.
The two were introduced after a badly-injured Spike appeared at Julia's doorstep. She nursed him back to health and fell in love with him. Their love would not sit well with Vicious, nor would Spike's intentions of leaving the syndicate with Julia. He ordered her to kill Spike, but she instead disappeared. They would meet again only for Spike to lose her once more.
Gourry & Lina from "The Slayers"
The best swordsman around, Gourry is a chivalrous young man who is easy-going and at times really dense about certain matters which Lina has to explain to him.
Fiery, short-tempered, and a little physically underdeveloped, Lina is the main character in the series and a skilled sorceress capable of inflicting an immensely powerful attack spell.
Gourry meets Lina after he saves her from bandits and from then on, they become close friends and partners constantly traveling together. They even share the same affinity for food and eventually they begin to care deeply for each other discreetly. Gourry even vows to protect Lina forever (a promise he intends to keep) and Lina in turn, will do anything to guarantee he's safely at her side.
There's even a love triangle between the two and Sylphiel, who is kind, quiet, and specializes only in white magic. She loves Gourry and will do anything to be with him. The reason she fell in love with him is because he once saved her village from a demon's attack (accidentally) and remembering his bravery when she was younger, joined him and became his devoted admirer.
Kiba & Cheza from "Wolf's Rain"
A lone wolf, Kiba despises humans and hates his human form. Along with his pack which he leads, he seeks to reach paradise.
Known as the "flower maiden", Cheza is of a special breed and is sought after by the ruling class of Nobles because she is the only one capable of leading them to the fabled paradise. She is naïve about the world's evil around her and becomes very attached to the wolves that protect her. She also has strange healing powers.
Kiba meets Cheza in the research lab where she is being held, but is joined by her after she escapes from Darcia's hold. All the wolves are able to smell her scent of lunar flowers, but Kiba is the most able to sense Cheza and is extremely protective of her. Cheza decides to immediately lead the pack to paradise, and enjoys being with them, but mostly with Kiba. When she is taken from them and gives herself willingly to stop Darcia from hurting them further, Kiba'll stop at nothing to restore her by his side at the cost of his own life. In the end, they are unable to be with each other in this world, but as Cheza leaves him, she promises to meet him again in her new form in paradise.

A zoid pilot who loves zoid battles, Van is the good-natured hero and cares deeply for the friends who join him on his travels. It is near the ruins of his hometown that he will discover the organoid Zeke, and the mysterious Fiona.
Fiona is from an ancient race, but until that is revealed, she is a girl whose past and origins are unknown. She is open with her feelings for the hero, expressing them frequently.
After their accidental meeting, it's obvious that Fiona cares deeply for Van at first sight. Her attention gravitates heavily on him and only him. Van, however, doesn't show as much feeling for Fiona, but they still become the main couple of the series. Van is just basically there to protect her on their journey and help her regain her memories.
Vash & Rem from "Trigun"
Split between being a justice-seeking, staid gun-slinger and a donut craving, womanizing ignoramus, Vash is the series' hero and in a class of his own. His skills are proficient and renowned, and there just so happens to be a heavy bounty on his head. Even so, the humanoid typhoon continues his quest to bring about peace and love with the occasional accidental destruction he leaves behind.
Rem's the woman from Vash's past and whom he dreams of. Many years ago, in a mass diaspora, she abandoned the Earth along with the members of the Seeds Project and their cryogenically frozen human cargo. Rem is a kind and gentle woman with deeply-rooted beliefs against murder and prefers a passive approach to solving conflicts. Her favorite place on board is the recreation room which is much like a simulated Eden, and loves red geranium flowers.
It's during Rem's journey for a new hospitable planet that she finds a young Vash and his twin brother, Knives. She takes care of them, and over time serves as their protector and mentor; she even cuts Vash's hair in the style of her old love. Vash adopts her philosophy and even develops a crush on her, while Knives resents Rem's teachings and the human race. As a result, he sabotages the Seeds mission and creates animosity amongst the crew.
Eventually things become beyond repair forcing Rem to take Vash and Knives to an escape pod. She returns to the ship, but perishes in an explosion after securing its landing. In her valiant efforts, she sacrifices her own life to save humanity. Vash still continues to think of Rem and the song she used to sing even after many years have passed.

Unique to Inu Yasha's world, Kagome is a cheerful and gregarious school girl from the future, brought into the era of feudal Japan. In actuality, however, she is the reincarnation of the dead priestess Kikyo, and uses her sacred arrows to subdue demons. She aids Inu Yasha in retrieving the remnants of the Shikon jewel which she is able to sense.
Kagome first meets Inu Yasha bound to a tree by a magical spell. After he is released by her, she joins him in his quest to defeat Naraku. What begins as a rocky partnership eventually becomes Inu Yasha caring for Kagome and the others. He begins to show his softer side towards her, and is never reluctant to protect her during attacks or become jealous of Koga's advances. And while they might still bicker frequently, it's not hard to tell that there is something more than camaraderie, although they'll never admit it.
Parn & Deedlit from "Record of Lodoss War"
Parn is a callow swordsman who easily resorts to rash and impulsive tactics in battle. He was expelled from his hometown which held him and his father in low regard, before beginning his journey. Parn uses his father's armor and sword to defend the peace of Lodoss.
As a high elf, Deedlit has a strong connection with nature and is experienced in fighting and magic. She is very knowledgeable and is constantly trying to win Parn's attention away from their mission, but to little avail.
Deedlit first appears to Parn to warn him of a pending attack on his hometown, and joins him after. Together they are on a journey to stop the evil sorceress Karla and a myriad of other equally ruthless villains. Deedlit also cares deeply for Parn and stays by his side to insure that he is safe and not in over his head.
