Memories of the

Hello, we are the Quinte Bay
Cloggers!
A Little About Us...
Since 1981, The Quinte Bay Cloggers
have been dancing their way into the hearts of people from Toronto to Belleville
and beyond. Our dancers range in age from the young, to the young
at heart; each clogger dedicated to the joy of performing their art.
Appreciative audiences are our greatest reward.
Clogging is an American folk
dance whose roots come from the English, Scottish, and Dutch-Germans who
settled in the Appalachian Mountains in the mid 1700's. The dance
was also influenced by Russian Gypsies and African Blacks who passed through
the area as well as the Cherokee Indians who originally inhabited it.
The word "clog" is a Gaelic
term meaning "time". Clogging is "time" dancing in which the heel
is the time keeper.
The dancing was done impromptu
to the foot-tapping bluegrass music that also has its roots in the Appalachians.
As clogging slowly moved out of the mountains to the flatlands, special
taps were added to give the dance its distinctive sound.
Although clogging is traditionally
based on Bluegrass and Country Western music, The Quinte Bay Cloggers dance
to music from the 1950's and 1960's as well as modern pop music.
Many of our routines have been uniquely choreographed to incorporate the
look and feel of a major stage production. The exciting pace of the
precision line dances and circle dances done by the Quinte Bay Cloggers
are entertaining to people of all ages.

Quinte
Bay News
(Updated June 14, 2001)
Quinte Bay Cloggers are currently changing hands again, and this means time for new leardership, and plenty of changes. This particular website was created by a member of the club, and not by the club as an organization. It was a documentation of the club's history with a few memories. Dancers come and dancers go, but the memories will live on. That is why this site is being closed and left as this dancer remembered it. Keep on clogging........ Rob.
