BOSS DD-3 - for repair (spyrogyro) |
Well, I thought I would be repairing a DD3 but when I tested the unit, it works perfectly fine. When I told this to spyrogyro, he explained that he is using a generic power supply (multiple output configuration 1500mA of output current). I was also using an adaptor during my test (single 9Vdc output 1000mA of current). I went to his place and checked the generic power supply. We found out that the output capacitor of the power supply is insufficient for the requirement of the DD3. Meaning large ripple must be present in the output of the power supply, thus unabling the DD3 to operately correctly. We then added a ZL electrolytic capacitor.... yup! the DD-3 worked perfectly! Symptoms of the problem: Unit will turn-ON (LED will lit) but the pedal will not do what it is suppose to to do (e.g. adding a delayed signal to it's ouput). Conclusion / Recommendation: Since the DD-3, as observed, is very sensitive to it's supply input, if possible never use a generic power supply for a DD-3 or to be able to use this type of off-the-shelf power sources, modify the generic power supply by changing/adding electrolytic capacitor on it's output. Please take note of the voltage rating requirement for the e-cap. 07May2006 |
