There isn't much news about Charlie until recently he returned to TW to present in Golden Horse Award.  

Following is an English summary of varies news about Charlie.  All the text in "( )" are my notes.  Enjoy!

Being invited by the famous director Li Xing (Li Hsing), Charlie returned to Taiwan to present the Golden Horse Award in 2000.  Charlie said he was actually being invited last year (1999), but his good buddy Jacky Chan got stuck in the big scandal that year so Charlie didn't want to come back to TW to be embarrassed by the reporters' questions on that issue. 

(Although I was never a Jacky Chan's fan, I admire the great friendship between Charlie and Jacky.  These two have been constantly standing by each other.  Their friendship started since they were both in HK in their early years, that was long before either of them earned their fames.  They have been through a tough time together as two struggling little actors and their friendship has been lasting ever since.) 

Charlie said now Jacky and Joan Lin had been reconciled and their relationship got even better.  So he felt he could come back to TW now.  Charlie said Joan was even more conservative than him, as she didn't want to come back to TW to present in the event even being invited by her mentor Li Xing.

Charlie looked darker due to too much out-door activities especially golf.  (In fact, he was dark when he was young.  :)  But he still looked handsome and attractive.  (Yeah! Glad to hear that.  I only managed to get two his pics of his return from the internet, which are not in good qualities.  I think he should look much nicer than these two pics.  If you'd like to share with me any pics of Charlie, email me.)

Charlie lives in L.A. now and engages in some real estate business.  He has a stable life with his wife and two sons.  His wife is a big fan of movie stars, singers.  Last time when the TW singer Lan Xinmei went to US to perform, Charlie took his wife to see the show since his wife was a fan of Lan Xinmei's.  When knowing Charlie was in the audience seats,  Lan Xinmei was thrilled because Charlie was her idol when she was young.   (Interesting, isn't it?)

The reporters asked Charlie whether he still kept in touch with the others of "Two Lins, Two Chins".  Charlie said he had no contact with Brigitte Lin since both of them got married already and it would be embarrassing for them to keep in touch.  But he does have contact with Joan Lin a lot since Jacky Chan is his good friend. 

(What kind of idiot reporters would have asked such stupid questions?  Have they got any common sense or  background of the "Two Lins, Two Chins"?  Would it even be possible for Charlie and Brigitte Lin or Chin Han still keep in touch after what they have been through?  Sometimes you really wonder whether those reporters get brains.  On another hand, it's really good to know Charlie and Joan are still friends and keep in touch.)

Charlie said Jacky had asked him a few times that whether he wanted to return to showbiz to make movies again.  Charlie refused as he thought his personality didn't fit for entertainment circle.  He said he actually desired a peaceful and quiet life. 

(Yes, the showbiz is often unhealthy for normal people.  Glad to hear that Charlie has settled a stable and peaceful life now in US.  Just feel lucky that he didn't quit showbiz in 70s, otherwise we would have lost a charming romance leading man and the famous "Two Lins, Two Chins" would never be the same without Charlie.)

Charlie presented in the award with his old co-star Zhou Danwei, whom Charlie thought had not changed much and still looked beautiful (see the left pic.).  The two had tea together and a nice chat.  They knew they've made two movies together before, but neither one of them could remember the titles.

(Apparently, the reporters didn't know what movies they made together either.  OK, here is the answer.  The movies Charlie and Zhou Danwei made together were:  "Young Lovers" and "The Sunset in Geneva".  They also made some other movies together but not as a pair, such as "The War of the Sexes" etc..)
