AIDS  AWARENESS

I-AIDS awareness activity for children in two ways:
1 – all our children at Navjeevan receive education about HIV/AIDS.
2 – a Targeted Intervention Program educates 500 additional street and slum children in India who are considered to be at special risk. This project is funded by the Government of India, and various sponsor’s all over the world.
AIDS awareness is conducted by:

  • direct education on HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted diseases
  • health camps
  • street plays and puppet shows
  • films and printed literature
  • motivating children to take tests and treatment
    follow-ups

In addition to AIDS awareness amongst children, I-India is involved in the national Kavach project to educate and test truck drivers and truck-stop prostitutes across India. The project is funded by The Bill Gates and Melinda Gates Foundation through TCI (Transport Corporation of India).

 

Since its inception I-India has been involved in advocating child rights. Activities have included:
* “Who Stole My Childhood?” – a play produced by I-India, funded by Unicef and presented by street children to thousands of invited VIP guests in Jaipur’s three major auditoriums. Also performed throughout Rajasthan and broadcast on Doordarshan state television.
* Several other thematic plays performed for the public and street children.
* Organising “Child Awareness Day” in which thousands of street children participate in a cycle-rickshaw procession through Jaipur.
* Publication of monthly newsletter Tabar (= a child).
* Seminars, camps, group meetings.
* Workshops for employers and government officers.
* Conducting research.
* Co-operation with other NGO's on state and national initiatives.
