M'cri's Weyr
A tallish, dark skinned young man greets you with a broad grin as you wander past his weyr.

The weyr itself is darkened, with tapestries covering the windows.

"Why is it so dark in here?" You ask, and the young man laughs.

"Because I've just Impressed, and my little life partner over there needs her sleep!"

"Her?!" You sputter, "you're a green rider?"

He smiles with a lopsided grin. "Of course," he says. "Here, my name is Mic.... M'cri! It will take a while to get used to that! My dragon here is still asleep. She ate a little too much and I was worried that she would have some kind of indegestion... It kept her up very late, last night. Plus," he looks at the brilliant light beyond one of the windows, "I am not much on daylight myself. She and I seem to share that."
"Here she is," M'cri says, moving aside some of the discarded straw on the dragons stone couch. "Her name is Lannath. She is just about the most beautiful dragon in the world, don't you think?

Lannath and M'cri grow together quickly. But it is M'cri's association with the strange V'nya that allows him to fly with more confidence than he would have before. Anyone riding a dragon into the skies has more confidence than that strange one.

Strange or no, I like him. And I like Ruarth too, Lannath told M'cri. When I am old enough, I think we shall be better than friends.

"You're already weyrmates, Lannath, we live right next to him! How much closer do you--" Suddenly M'cri smiled and stopped. "Oh. Of course. Well, I had thought of them that way myself... I wonder if..."

I do not wonder, I would ask! Lannath was excited. Her green wings flapped causing quite the wind inside the dark weyr.
The time has come for Lannath to be called an adult! She is much bigger than she was just a few months ago. M'cri too has matured, in body and mind.

"When the wing forms, I wish to be tested for a lead spot," M'cri told his dragon. "I think that we are fast and sure enough to do it."

I am very fast. I am faster than most! Even the other greens are slower than I!

"That may be true my love, but you only need to be faster than the Thread." M'cri said, patiently. He rubbed oil into the dragon's skin, and she crooned in delight. This might be their only rest before Threadfall, and he intended to show his life's partner that he appreciated her no matter what.

Will you let me Fly? When my time comes? Lannath asked, and M'cri got the idea that that would be soon.

"I will have nothing but praise for you," he said, honest. "And if you might fly Ruarth, so much the better. I think he and his rider are just fine for us, even though he's already flown that other green."

She is older than I, and I am much better at tricky flight than she is.

"I don't understand why you don't just
mate, Lannath. Dragons are so strange that way."

No, no, it's the humans who have it all wrong! We love Flights! Well, the Golds say they do not always, but they are golds and golds are arrogant. We greens know better. We love it. But you must prove that you're caught by the right male!

"You got that right," M'cri laughed, and thought very highly of that rider he so adored...
