Nothing quite like getting up and running 8 miles before stuffing yourself silly with turkey and fixins!! My sister Nina joined me at the event (she ran the 3 mile portion - smart.) It was a super windy morning, but the weather wasn't too cold.

Well, finally the completion of my first "full" triathalon!! If you remember during my first triathalon, the swim portion was cancelled due to
lightning. Hmmm. Well, the weather in Hemet (where the heck is that? California, where else?) was great. This was one interesting event though. I did the race with two of my wild and crazy friends - Christy and Andy. We were cheered on by quite a few other friends - Sherine, Ronny, Vickie, and of course the always positive Sam. Although, I must say that none of them RECOGNIZED ME when I ran by them....Hello!!!!  LOL. We started off with the run, then went on the bike, and finished with the swim - it was a reverse triathalon!! The swim portion was hilarious because it was in a 25 meter swimming pool (some people weren't even swimming, they were walking in the pool. Jeez.). Andy came out victorious between the three of us. "Need a lift" he said as he flew by me as I  furiously peddled on the mountain bike (note to the reader - do NOT attempt a triathalon on a mountain bike!). Thanks Andy!! Seriously, it was a lot of fun and I look forward to racing with them again (perhaps I will get a rematch in the 19th Annual Tinsel Triathalon. If you are in the Hemet area for any reason, make sure to eat at Datillo's Italian Restaurant. This is an amazing restaurant where we ate the night before the race. Authentic Italian food in Hemet??? You bet. Made by grandma Datillo herself. Don't miss out. I know we won't if we go back :-)
We came, we saw, and after the race we had drinks!! There was quite a showing out there at race day for our group - thanks everyone for coming out. Andy kicked butt on Christy and I once again. He did an amazing job! Those Austrians are tough to beat.
We got off to kind of a late start (did Sherine ever make it to the race?), but it was beautiful country where we finally got started. This race isn't exactly in Napa, so we were all wondering exactly why it was called the Napa Triathlon. Who cares because we all survived once again to race another day. Once again, I learned the hard lesson that it might be a good idea to try training before race day. Will I ever learn.....probably not, but it was worth saying :-)
The swim was a free for all with 8 waves of 100. The bike was rather hilly and the run took place on the same course as we biked. Believe me when I say I felt like jumping into the lake off that last bridge during the run. LOL That would have been one monstrous plunge indeed. After the race, we did the wine country which was amazing. Make sure to try eating at the Culinary Institute. Yum.
