Caring for Calves in Maui Waters

Introducing the Keiki Kohola Project

The Keiki Kohola Project is a grass roots research effort that was launched in 1997 by a group of concerned captains and naturalists from within the local whale watching community on Maui.

The waters around Maui constitute the most important nursery area for humpback whales of the Central North Pacific Ocean. Our project provides information on calf behavior and development that can be used to safeguard these nursery waters.

Our work is entirely voluntary, all participants donate their time and funding comes from private donations and our own fundraising efforts. 100% of all funds raised go directly to fund the project, buying fuel for the boat and film for our cameras.
