fun with marbles
there is a shortage of attractive and reasonably priced refridgerator magnets in this world which means that it's time to take matters into your own hands.
head down to the local craft store, collect your supplies and set aside a few hours to make a few of these classy little note holders, your refridgerator and friends will be glad you did.
what you need:
clear flat glass marbles
tiny round magnets
silicone sealer glue
old magazines, books, pictures, flyers, newspaper or anything else you would like to chop up and stick a marble to
how to:
depending on the size of your marbles cut circles out of whatever papery pictures you are working with. i am constantley on the look out
for pictures that would work for marbles, picking up flyers at shows, teraing out adds in magazines and collecting colorful labels. place the marble
over the picture you wish to use to see how it looks before you make the final cuts. you can use the marble or a circular stencil to trace a circle
and then cut it out.
the smell from the glue can be a bit strong so for the asembley part of this project make sure you are working in a well ventilated room and
that there are no small pets like birds or kittens around.
using an orange stick or a toothpick gather a bit of the glue and spread it onto the magnet then place your picture atop the glue face up.
gather more glue onto your stick and place a blob of it onto the center of the flat part of one of the marbles. immediatley place flat
part of glue dolleped marble directley onto the picture you previously glued to the magnet.
allow to dry for 24 hours.
put your new marbles on your refridgerator or if you are giving them as a gift package them in a decorated altoids tin.
more fun with marbles:
collect pictures you are really keen on using with marbles and color copy them prior to chopping them so you can make more than one marble
masterpeice.
instead of affixing magnets to the marbles try gluing a push pin in place of the magnet to make fancy marble bulletin board pins.
use smaller marbles and glue them to hair pins or clips to make spiffy hair acessories.
collect fun letters and words from magazines and make a personalized set of name magnets or poetrty magnets for a friend.
