tortilla time: make your own flat bread

this recipie is a variation from a school cookbook my family aquired in the early 80's called "kinder-krunchies". making your own tortillas is fun for all ages and yeilds a delicious snack. it's espically fun to make with kids, i have fond memories of kneading dough and squishing out fun shaped tortillas with my hands when i was six and sixteen and even twenty-two.


what you need:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/3 cup warm milk


  • how to:

  • mix flour, salt, baking powder and softened butter in a bowl
  • slowly add warm milk and stir until combined
  • put dough onto lighty floured surface and knead
  • divide the dough and roll into six or seven balls
  • squish with a rolling pin or use hands to pat each ball flat
  • cook in ungreased skillet on medium heat
  • add butter or cheese and eat
