Lesson 1: What the hell is cosplay?

Well Cosplay is the dressing up and acting as an anime/manga/video game character. Cosplay is the combination of two words:
Costume Play. It is a widely popular hobby in Japan and a well know "sport" among con goers. I just started so my costumes kinda....suck. But that's okay!
Most cosplayers will preform skits, compete, or go in groups for photos or to showcase skill.
In cosplay normally you will act as your character (it's fun! Especially if your going as ED! you get to annoy people yay!). And since hardly anyone knows your name at a con, you get addressed as your character, (either that or excuse me, hey you, or my all time fave, i don't know your character, but cool costume!) That's the proper thing to do.
Cosplay is very hard, very expensive, and very worth it. Cosplay comes in all shapes and sizes. Even mascots are considered to be cosplay.
Mascots are things like Mecha(ie: Gundams and Escaflownes) and guys in big stuffed anime characters (ie: Ryo-oki, Pokemon, & Totoro). Costumes can be very complex and take a long time. Most anime characters have.....interesting.....costumes. So they will take a while. And money.
I, personally, don't know how I got into it in the first place. If anything, I blame Otakon (an anime convention in Baltimore, Maryland). When I was looking it up, I saw pictures of Cosplayers and was completly taken aback. The costumes were so well done, and the people were so into it. I just had to try it. And needless to say. I love it. And I'm broke. But I got my friends into it and now there broke too!
HAHAHA feel my pain!
sorry........
But in conclusion. I love cosplay. I don't regret it. And like I say, "If you can't be an anime. Cosplay"
Lesson 1:Just what is cosplay anyway?
