The Second Coming
OF
A little over twenty yahren ago, that's years for us Earthbound humans, a battlestar called Galactica lead a rag tag fleet across the universe in search of the Thirteenth tribe.  They landed, first, on the big screen where they were a box office hit in Canada (and didn't do too bad in the US).  Next, its creator, Glen Larson, pushed it onto television.  Shortly after the most successful sci-fi show of its kind aired, it was cancelled. So ended a great storyline...or so we thought....
Actor Richard Hatch (Captain Apollo) has come forward as a champion for the
Galactica and her fans.  He explained in a recent interview that after doing many sci-fi conventions and meeting countless fans who remember and really love Galactica, he knew he was right....
GALACTICA MUST BE REVIVED!
With the help of other actors and film professionals, award winning camera men, special effects personnel and fans donating their
Galactica garb and guns that they had collected, saved, and treasured, Richard managed to create a four minute trailer.
The original die-hard fans can remember the movie in "SENSURROUND," a system developed at Universal Studios by W. O. Watson and Richard Stumpf.  The format injected tones from 5-40 Hz at 110-120 dB based on control track information on the film.  Movies that successfully used this technique were Earthquake, Midway, Rollercoaster, and Battlestar Galactica (of course).  The seats in the theater shook beneath the audience as the Galactica floated by on the silver screen.
When the movie hit television, fans of the movie embraced the mini-series with excitement. Sunday evenings were
Galactica evenings. Today there are several generations of fans who may only get Battlestar Galactica in re-runs on various independent television networks.
Recently, the
Sci-Fi Channel has whole-heartedly supported Galactica and her myriads of fans.  But...was it the special effects, the vipers flying around, the blasts of lasers that kept fans coming back and remembering ... ?
The story, the mythology,.a civilization far more advanced than our own is caught up in a terrible battle to survive after their planets are destroyed by their enemy of over a thousand years.  Homeless and in shock, there is only one thing to do: follow their military leader and only surviving member of their Council of the Twelve, beginning a journey to a distant "shining planet..known as Earth." There they can hope to find their brothers and a safe haven from the Cylons who dog them every step of the way.
The characters are unforgettable.  The strength and faith of their leader, Commander Adama, the emotional and beautiful Athena, the racy Cassiopea,  loyal Boomer whose battle cry leads the attack against the bad guys...YAHOO! (well, sometimes it was YEEHAA!), the handsome rascal Starbuck, who won the hearts of many fans as well as the ladies on board the ship, the good 'ol boy, Jolly who idealized his Skipper, the independent Sheba, the warrior Bojay, and last but not least, the valliant Captain Apollo - ever loyal to his father and committed to bring his people safely to Earth.
Richard Hatch IS Captain Apollo!  He has become a real hero to the many people he touches through his lectures, classes, radio broadcasts, and his appearances at sci-fi conventions.
Hearing him speak about his projects in person makes one believe that any mountain can be climbed! His passion, drive, creative force, and power to motivate fans has served him in his quest to renew the series that he believes (along with fans and friends) should be brought back.
While at each Sci-Fi convention, Richard works to make his fans feel at home with him.  He dreams a huge dream that he knows his fans are very much a part of.  The warm smile, the great conversation, the willingness to pose for pictures and make each fan feel welcomed is just Richard's way of letting them know that he is there for them as much as they are here for him.
