WITHOUT BORDERS

of Detroit Michigan and Windsor Ontario
Are you a woman concerned about the future of the world?
Do you think we are leaving a mess behind us for our grandchildren?
I bet you thought there wasn't much you could do about it.
But now there is. Join a Raging Grannie Gaggle.

The Raging Grannies are women who have had enough of wars, oppression, injustice, racism, sexism, environmental destruction, multinational corporate control, eroding civil liberties, violence against women and children, poverty, etc.

With new words set to familiar tunes, Raging Grannies sing at peace rallies, in the halls of power, schools, shelters, malls, on street corners…wherever women's voices need to be heard. Our raging is done with humor,
attention getting outfits and outrageous creativity.

If you are a woman concerned about what kind of world we are creating for our grandchildren, please join us. Don’t worry if you're not a singer, there are no tryouts, all are welcome. We do ask you to wear a hat, big, silly,
flamboyant hats are encouraged, but not required.

Our activities have included advocating for PEACE, protesting discrimination of Asian and Muslim people, protesting against war, water cut-offs to people in Detroit, protesting for PEACE, protesting against war toys, protesting against Wal-Mart. I'm sure there are some I've forgotten. I gave up trying to keep a complete record here.

We have raged 17 times from November 2002 through February 2003. It's been exhilirating, exhausting,
COLD, and lots of FUN. All my pictures and reports wouldn't fit on one page anymore, so the most recent accounts are here, and most of the reports from November, December, and January were moved to another page HERE

I wanted this to be an ongoing record of our activities so viewers could see we are really active. BOY ARE WE EVER ACTIVE
:-)

First we sang at an
Anti War Rally in Windsor on November 17th. Then on the 24th we performed at a fundraiser for CPR (Committee for the Political Resurrection of Detroit).

Next was our singing against holiday commercialism on Noel night in Detroit. Check out the songs
HERE. The very next night we sang at a club in Detroit, THE MAGIC STICK, it was a fundraiser for Peace. On December 13th we performed for the Peace Action Network at their holiday dinner. We didn't take much time off for the holidays, on December 21st we raged at a military recruiting station. The very next day we staged a protest against WAR TOYS in front of J.C. Penney's.

Our next event was a demonstration in front of the INS office in Detroit on January 10th, protesting registration of males ages 16 & up from certian Muslim countries, and afterwards we went to a nearby restaurant to warm up &
make friends. That didn't give much time to rest up before the anti war rally in Washington D.C. on January 18th. Those of us who didn't go to D.C. were part of the anti war rally in Windsor the same day.  Lastly in January we protested the State of the DIS-Union address in front of the Federal building in Detroit on the 29th.  The next day, we were on the front page of the Detroit News.
The Detroit News
on January 30th.
BUSY BUSY BUSY !
In February we had SIX activities. Five were performances where we raged.
Plus our monthly meeting.

We raged against the Detroit crisis of water board shut-offs to poor people in Detroit. Some people say there have been 40 thousand shut-offs, and others say it was only 8 thousand. Either way, it's way too many. I doubt poor people in other countries have to pay for water, the United Nations says water is a human right. We sang our water shut-off protest songs,
What is he Thinking?
That's Too Bad
Water Board Blues
Saints Water Shut-Offs Protest,
on February 8th and again on February 10th. On the 10th a film crew from the BBC showed up, lets hope it causes some sympathetic coverage here in the U.S.A. There was a radio spot aired on
WDET that you can listen to.
This is Beverly and Dolores.
We raged against the planned war on iraq on February 15th, along with about 12 million people around the world. That was a tremendous success ! The demonstration in October last year was barely mentioned by the media, & when it was mentioned, the coverage was inaccurate. This time the media found it impossible to ignore TWELVE MILLION protestors.
We sang outside at the meeting point, we sang inside at the indoor rally in Cobo Hall. When the official program was over, we sang in the lobby of Cobo Hall to a cross section o America. People were there for the AntiWar Rally, for the state Democratic convention, and for the boat show. We had fun and got some interesting looks from people passing by.
On February 20th we sang at a Solidarity meeting for the Muslim, Arab and south Asian Immigrant men that are being singled out by INS. The event was organized by The Blue Triangle Network
Later we heard that a woman whose husband is being held in secret was there and she no longer feels all alone.
On the 21st of February we demonstrated again
in font of the INS office while they registered
Muslim, Arab, & south asian men.
From the left, that's Charlotte, Magi, And Judy.
Magi's sign says it all.
There are chapters of Raging Grannies all over Canada, and they are starting to show up in the U.S. too. Our chapter was created in November of 2002.

Questions ? Want to join? Willing to sing for a better world? Always wanted to wear a silly hat?
