Short Surahs for Salah |
After getting the basics of salah down, it is a good idea to learn other short surahs to recite in salah. However, if you're not an arabic speaker, learning these surahs can seem like a daunting task. To help reduce some anxieties, it helps to listen to a native arabic speaker reciting surahs slowly. Included here is a link to a fantastic website that does just that. A native arabic speaker recites some of the shorter surahs from the Qur'an. You can right click and save them, and then listen to them over and over until you have in ingrained in your mind. Also on this site (right below the surahs) is a sound clip of Tashahhud, what is said while in the seated position during prayer. Quran101 - Short Surah Recordings |
However, if you're more of a visual learner then an audio learner, it may also help you to see the Surahs in front of you while you listen. Again, for us non-arabic speakers, Arabic words look beautiful, but daunting. It seems impossible to decifer the word of God from all the little lines and squiggles. Luckly, Arabic can be transliterated into roman letters, ie the sounds can be expressed in letters familiar to an English reader. Click on the link to find a whole transliterated Qur'an online. It's a great resource for all Muslims to have. Make sure to bookmark it: Transliterated Qur'an |
