The Feloran Chronicles

Volume 21:
A Fate Yet to be Sealed.
3-9-02 to 4-23-02
The Avatar of Titaenus' search for Kylie brings him to the Feloran Capital where he runs across fellow Minions Eliad Blaque and Regallan Fashan.  After Eliad is able to convince the Avatar that his days of evildoing as "The Blackhearted" were long past, the Avatar allows him to assist in his search.  They find that the telepathic Kylie has left the Capital on a trip with an old friend, Kit,  along with Warren and her ever-present protecter, Gauntlet..  So, Eliad and the Avatar head out in pursuit.

Meanwhile on the mystic continent, as Cascade escapes with the magic-nullifying gem he stole, the mage K'mael and Minion Torlu are left behind to deal with the angry squad of elves who were gaurding it.  K'mael is able to prove to the elves commander, Mileena Dil'talri, that they did not possess the artifact with a simple spellcasting display.  He offers to help retrieve the gem, and while he and two of the soldiers go to the elven capital to get reinforcements, Torlu and Mileena chase after the ancient knight.

At the elven capital, K'mael's magic exposes the queen's advisor, Lord Skerran, as the demon Skiff in disguise.  It was he who told Cascade of the gem, and he who lessened the guard at the temple so that it could be taken.  It is then revealed that the stolen magic gem, called the Seal of Altir, plays a major role in maintaining the balance of magic on Felora, and that if it remains out of place for too long the world itself would fall to ruin.  The elven queen herself, along with her best soldiers, would go with the human mage to retrieve it.

Cascade escapes to sea and, from there, heads toward the Feloran continent to pursue his ancient enemy: the demon behemoth, Gauntlet.  The knight finds his prey, and the magic-nullifying powers of the Seal of Altir reduce Kylie, Warren, and Kit to helpless bystanders.  Gauntlet too, without his magic, is not nearly as powerful, and Cascade was the greatest monster-slayer of his time or any other.

Just as Cascade was about to claim victory, K'mael, Torlu, and the elves arrive to take back the seal.  Still, without their magic they were just soldiers, and Cascade could slay
dragons.  They could not defeat him with strength of arms, so the elven queen tried a different approach: honesty.  She told him of the seal's importance, and of the demon Skiff that used Cascade in his plan to destroy the world.  For in his soul, Cascade was a good man with a noble heart.  The queen charged him with the seal's safe return and the protection of it henceforth.  At length, the knight gives up his chance at revenge for this higher calling.

Afterword, Mileena, feeling that she had failed in her duty, refuses to return to the ridicule and dishoner that would await her back in elven lands.  She asks K'mael to accept her as a traveling companion, and he agrees.

And, out in the wilderness, Eliad's horrible tracking skills have led the Avatar of Titaenus and himself to roughly the middle of nowhere.
