  This week:
Tyre Bek perches on the stone that marks the boundary of the Seal of Altir's influence, and Volkenar understands the small Minion's intent.
"That stone marks where magic once again holds sway, doesn't it?  And you
need magic to keep someone sealed away in that pocket dimension of yours, don't you?  That's why that demon was freed so suddenly.
  "If I leave, you'll seal
me away.
  "Can't have that..."
In the meantime, Torlu and K'mael meet up with Cascade on the way to the Keep. (shown)  When they arrive, the gate is closed and prevents them from entering.  Cascade, however, does not even slow.  He lodges his sword in the gate and uses it as a handhold to vault up and over the wall.  K'mael and Torlu are stunned.
"Agile for his age..." K'mael observes.
"Are you sure he's human?"  Torlu asks him.
12-15-03 to 12-21-03 (7 pages)
Ji Baran enters the Temple of Altir.  Much to the suprise of the Temple's gaurdians, Ji is not after the Seal of Altir but rather K'mael's Book of Prophecy.  (shown)
Meanwhile, Cascade stands just outside the Temple's entrance.  When Ji emerges, Book in hand, he challenges the demon.
  "You'll have to
leave with your prize, demon.  You'll find that a more difficult task, I think."
But Ji is no longer interested in battle.  He scales the wall of the Temple in an apparent attempt to flee.
12-22-03 to 12-28-03 (7 pages)
  This week:
Once at the top of the Temple of Altir, Ji spreads his wings.  Cascade looks on in shock and anger as a thin membrane grows out and makes Ji's wings functional!  None of the elven archers remain standing, though, and Ji easily glides right out over the Keep's walls.
Fortunately, the Keep has one more defender.  Former commander of the temple's elven gaurd, Mileena Dil'talri is just as skilled with a spear as ever!  And within the Seal of Altir's influence, Ji is all too vulnerable to it.  The demon loses his hold on the Book of Prophecy and crashes to the ground.
Mileena, too, is suprised that Ji was after the Book and not the Seal, but she has no time to consider it, as a shadow looms behind her.  It is Volkenar, and he easily snatches up the now weaponless elf.
"Elven blood is a little thin for my taste," the vampire comments, "but I suppose it'll do."
Things look bleak for Mileena until Volkenar rears back in pain.  The mere touch of the Chosen elf caused Volkenar's skin to burn!
"So," he growls.  "Not all magic is gone from this place."
"I suppose divine favor extends even here," Mileena replies.
