Short Bio Buses graffitti Currently PCC

Short Bio

My name is Dean. I once attended PCC Rock Creek Campus where I took the core of my classes, part of the Portland Community College of Portland,Oregon. This page is possible because of the necessity to aquire one to show evidence of my homework for my class CIS 120, and now... CIS 121 and CIS 122
The class was an online course, also known as a Distance Learning Course offered by PCC. This was a whole new learning experience for me. I am used to having interaction with classmates and instructors physically. This DL class is virtual, nothing physical here, it's constantly reading and rereading until I get it right. It's all Greek to me, this html thing. I'm used to surfing the web, not creating one.

I have been married for 23 wonderful years. My wife's name is Pam. Bless her heart, she's supporting me in my new effort to return to school as an apprentice with Trimet's Fare Collections Department to earn my Journeyman classification that can be useful at my job. She calls me "her Nerd". I work for a transportation outfit. Pam used to drive a bus, before she was terminated due to an on the job injury which caused her to miss much work, filed workman's comp, lost and now working for Elmer's Pancake House as a Lottery worker and I work in maintenance learning all about the Fare Machines found on all our platforms along our alignment for the MAX Lines of Portland, Oregon's Light Rail System.

When I was a Platform Cleaner, I often had to clean graffitti immediately, to get rid of the "eye sore". Sometimes, the graffitti is quite pleasant looking, but vandalism just the same. If I couldn't clean it off myself, I had to call my supervisor so he could arange to have the Laborers take care of it.

Sometimes I find graffitti.

Currently my job trains it's helpers to become mechanics, of which there are at least seven disciplines. The discipline I've been waiting for has always been filled by someone with more seniority than myself. I've been waiting for it to open several times for the past 9 years. So, since I lost out on the last available training program of my choice, I decided to do my own training in hopes to aquire a degree in the IT field to gain entrance into the IT department of Tri-Met, for that was my real goal all along. If I find I can't get in, then the skills I aquire along the path of my CIS degree, I am confident that I will have marketable skills I can take elsewhere. There are always jobs available for the IT specialist, from what I hear.

Nine years later, since date of hire, I now am an apprentice to maintain our Fare Machines tht can be found on each platform or nearby. They are FAA2000 models contracted from S&B of Germany. They are a complex machine that not only contain complete computers within, but also printers, coin systems, bill acceptor systems, and components that require one to be electricians and skilled in electronics.

The old saying,"The more things seem to change, the more they stay the same" sort of holds true. If you want to see what I mean, just click on the link for Tri-Met, and you will see how Portland, Oregon has a rich history in mass transportation; where once we relied on light rail, then when the automobile came into the picture, light rail died off, only to make a comeback.
