Part 2 of Assignment One

The Good and the Bad

Among the category of Good Design, I like Internet.com. It is well designed and is a good place to seek help in most anything you are looking help for. It is also a search engine to really do a deep search. The main reason I like the sight, is the fact if you have a problem with software or hardware, or both, you can come to this site to seek a solution to your problem.
Another site I really like, actually two more sites, areMaximumPC and Computerbits They are the online versions of their print version so to speak. They both do not have current print of the current monthly magazine, but do have links to previous monthly issues. Maximum PC Magazine is devoted to the hardcore computer enthusiast, while the latter is devoted to the computer novice/expert. Maximum PC Magazine is a subscription magazine you pay $30 a year for with cd's that come with each issue. The cd's always have some cool stuff, the staff at the magazine, thinks you should absolutely have, as well as cool stuff like game demos' and trial versions of applications, etc. The Computer Bits Magazine is a free publication you can pick up at most libraries, colleges, and other prime locations it is most likey sought for each month. It is a local magazine supported by the local community's advertisers that are connected with the computer one way or another. The magazine always has good articles to read, and quite a few times, timely sage advice for me, when I need it the most.
As for badly designed web sites...
when I come across a site that I feel is a bad site, I usually do not return. LeoGetz and such sites, usually contain tons of advertisements one way or another, and usually in the form of pop-up ads, pop-down ads, ads that wait until you close your browser and pop an ad at you, etc. They are completey annoying to me, and sometimes difficult to get out of the mad battle of closing those windows. They alomost always contain ads or invitations to go look at x-rated material too. If it's not x-rated, then it's also an invitation to get a credit card or something like that. But in all cases, someone wants your money.

Another site I believe is bad design, http://www.kilaita.com/joey/haha.html

I was doing a search on bad web design, and came across the above link, when I clicked on the link to check out why it was bad, the first thing that came to my screen was a pop-up window from my own anti-virus software informing me that a virus was jut detected. I had to clean my system twice. After making sure my system was cleaned, I tried the link again, and I got the same message again, "A virus had been just detected, should I clean your system, ignore the virus, or delete it?" Being this happened to me twice in the same session, I decided after the system was cleaned for the second time, to check and find out if there was a virus update to download. There was a new update to download, I just updated my virus detecter 6 days before. Now it's updated once again. You can bet I won't go back there again, even if it was just a joke to lift my spirits up was needed, I sure won't get it there.

I am not a critic by any means of web content that labels it good or bad. I just happen to like certain web pages, because they serve me well. I just happen to hate certain web sites, because they can contain malicious unexpected results. Take the last site discussed, if I had no anti-virus software installed on my system, I may have let a virus infect my system unawares! For all I know, the web designer of the virus detected, either was ignorant of the situation, or it was designed that way on purpose. Surfer Beware!
