The play
The book was dramatised for the stage by playwright and novelist Nigel Williams and was performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company at Atratford-upon-Avon in July 1995. For this musical production, the framework and the characters are Golding's own without additions or embellishments - Golding writes such beautiful dialogue anyway. My lyrics are the response of my emotiona state during and after the many times I buried myself in the reading of this very powerful book. If I have failed to render the spirit of the original, the fault is entirely my own and I humbly ask Golding's forgiveness.

The Songs
I tried to give the lyrics the kind of musical magic carpet which would help them fly off the page and enter the consciousness of the audience. Though Mediterranean by birth, I tried to give the music the kind of Anglo-Saxon and Gothic elements I believe the story demands. Whether I have succeeded or not is for the audience to decide.

Nick Sanios

The novel "Lord of the Flies", William Golding's first novel, is a modern classic. Beautifully written. it is both tragic and provocative. In a review of the book, "The Times" said "Golding know exactly what boys are like, he has a compelling imagination and th vivid realism with which he describes the disintegration of their precarious civilization under the pressure of raw nature .... a most absorbing and instructive tale."

  Rules

lyrics by M.Marseilles, music by N.Stanios

From the womb to the grave,
for the coward and the brave,
There are rules, rules

From the pit to the summit,
Day and night if you're at it,
There are rules, rules

Rules, rules, rules, rules,
Whether love them or hate them
You can never debate them - that's rules,
Either strong, weak or hollow
You must always follow - that's rules

Rules, rules, rules, rules,
Rules served for breakfast, dinner and lunch,
Rules thay quite often don't mean very much,
Rules for the rich, rules for the poor,
Rules now and forever knock at you door.

From the East to the West,
Student bad or the best,
There are rules, rules

From your toe to your head
Whether alive or dead
There are rules, rules

Rules, rules, rules, rules,
Whether love them or hate them
You can never debate them - that's rules,
Either strong, weak or hollow
You must always follow - that's rules

Rules, rules, rules, rules,
Rules served for breakfast, dinner and lunch,
Rules thay quite often don't mean very much,
Rules from your mother, rules from your wife,
Rules and more rules is what rules us in...life!
