| ABOUT US | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Like so many fanciers in the world of dogs, my first collie was acquired by fate and chance. In the 1970's, I was married and living in Bellaire, Texas, a suburb of Houston, when my dearest friend's daughter asked if I would take her collie, Kristy, and Kristy's litter of pups and help find homes for them, as she lived in a rural area of Texas. I agreed, and found good homes for all but one, which I decided to keep. I named him Benjamin. Kristy already had one leg of her obedience title, so I decided to work with her and finish up her CD. We went to classes, she knowing more than myself, but we did accomplish that goal. I also put a CD on her son, Ben. Shortly after that, I joined the South Texas Collie Club so I could learn more. That, dear readers, was the beginning of a lifetime association (or affliction, if you will) with dogs, especially the wonderful collie, both rough and smooth. Later I had a smooth fox terrier, just to keep my eye from becoming jaded, and then five years ago, I lost my heart to a beautiful Cardigan pup, Willy, now CH Criegles Raincrow Willy Wonka, CGC, and a couple years later, his mate, Luna, CH Sisterwood's Blue-Bird, CGC. This was a most fortunate step for me, as the slower show pace of the Cardigan fits better with my older and slower stride. Over the years, I have bred, show and finished many wonderful dogs, mostly collies, but also my cardigans and my smooth fox terrier to both their Championship and to their Performance titles. I do believe there should be titles on both ends. Among the many notable dogs at Raincrow, Crockett (U-AG11 CH Raincrow's Texas Hero, CD, OA, NAJ, RE, CGC, TT, HIC, AWCA-VC, BP, TD), my smooth champion, who was one of the first smoothies to earn his Rally Excellent title last year, is waiting for me to work on his CDX. His sire, Angus (U-AG1 Raincrow's Angus McCloud, AKC & ASCA-CD, NA/AWCA-VCX, BPDX, TT, TDI, DPP) crossed over the Rainbow Bridge this past March 11th, but he left his own legacy of accomplishments. Raincrow is also home to two wonderful Australian Shepherds, owned, trained and show to multiple performance titles by Terry Sullivan, Ruby (U-AG11, U-CD Raincrow's Ruby DoGoode, AX, AXJ, FDCH RA, CD, ASCA-RV-E, JS-N, GS-N/NADAC-EAC, OJC, NJC) and Summer (Holmbergs Raincrow Blu Summer, RA, AX, OAJ/ASCA-RS-N, RJ-N/NADAC-NAC, NJC, TN-N). Terry and I also co-own Poppet (CH Mystic Raincrow's Khaki Rose, RA, NJP, CGC) a smooth collie, bred by Bonnie Cary and Ginger Huettemann. Mystic Kennels in Taylor, Illinois, is home to some very beautiful and winning collies, both rough and smooth. Sincerely, Marion Johnson July 2006 Raincrow Collies N' Cardis |
