Found in all of Europe, North Africa, and Western Asia in the temperate zones.
They prefer thistles (Carduus), and knapweeds (Centaurea) for nectaring.
The larva, which feed on fescues (Festuca), are yellowish green or pale brown with dark lines along its back.
