More anthropologists, ethnographers, "weekend" anthropologists and tourists pass through Naha' than can possibly be remembered by the people there. "Roberto" Bruce is one set apart from all these curious visitors. His name and reputation as a long-time friend are familiar to even the youngest members of the community. He is among a handful of ts'ul (foreigners) who have been adopted as honourary citizens of Naha'.

Here is the introduction from The Last Lords of Palenque (1982) by Victor Perera and Robert Bruce. It is not written in Robert's most scholarly style, but it reflects his deep and enduring friendship with the Lacandones of Naha' and his commitment to their cultural survival.
