OSTARA - March 20-23

Ostara, also called the Eostre, (Spring Equinox or Vernal Equinox Festival of Trees, Alban Eilir, Ostara, the Rites of Spring, and the Rites of Eostre), celebrates the arrival of Spring. This Sabbat will fall between the above dates depending on which day the Sun is at its northern most point. Ostara is when the day and night are equal (hense the name Equinox). Ostara symbols are the egg and the rabbit. The energies of Nature are shifting from Winter to Spring.

The Celtic Goddess of fertility, Eostre is the aspect invoked at this Sabbat. Ostara is the Norse Goddess of fertility and is also honored at this time by many traditions. During this time, the snow begins to melt away, the days are warmer and longer. Looking around we see new birth everywhere, from homes on the hillside to the animals in the fields.

Life begins anew. This is the time to plant the seeds of flowers, herbs, veggies and perhaps begin a spiritual garden.
