Great Music to My Ears | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
When it comes to taking the cake XTC baked it. I have been an XTC fan since the release of Skylarking. I have tried to turn as many people on to them as my social life would allow. For anyone who has not experienced XTC I highly suggest it. You may educate yourself at any one of these great web sites. I have found many reasons to listen intently to XTC, perhaps you will also. I have to say for a band that does not tour, the fans are truly loyal. At least I am. I hope these pages and words encourage you to experience what life has to offer and in all its irony. |

They Might Be Giants If you like fun and happy music this is the band for you. Their lyrics always make me laugh and are great to sing along with. Many of their albums sound similar yet they are all individuals. I would say that next to XTC this is one band that not many people know or care about. At least that has been my experienc here in San Diego. |

Oingo Boingo This is one band that I have actually seen twice and I have to say they are a great concert band. Both times were during October. The first concert I went with this guy from my job at the time. I did not know him well, I did not know anyone well (in San Diego) at the time. I have just moved down here for college. Well at the concert it rained and the rain made the concert that much more enjoyable. The second concert was a few years later and I went with my boyfriend at the time. We had a good time but it was not as good as the first. I wished it had rained then also. |

House of Love- This band was descovered for me during high-school like all of the others. I get this tape from my boyfirend and I really enjoyed it. If you like good guitar and crafty lyrics this is a great band to check out. I would have to classify them as a rock band but at the same time they are not lost on the spot-lights. I saw them in concert with Peter Murphy they opened for him and I have to say I enjoyed them more. The really put on a great show. They just got up there and played their hearts out. For me some of their best songs are; Christine, Beatles and The Stones, Phone, I Don't Know Why I Love You, Crush Me and Safe.
Sophie B. Hawkins- She is one singer that very few people I run into know about. They may know her one song, "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover". I have to say that that is a great song but many of her other ones are just as good if not better. I have seen her in concert at the Del Mar fair. She put on a great show. I had so much fun. While she was singing her songs I really felt like she was having fun doing it. That is what makes a great concert. Some of my favorite songs are; Listen, Don't Stop Swaying, California Here I Come, Swing from Limb to Limb, and Let Me Love You Up.
Portishead- They have two albums and two singles that made it as hit far as I know. Like many of the bands I write about I like all of their songs. The ones I like the best are often not the "hits" that the average radio listener would be fimilar with. My favorite songs include: It Could Be Sweet, Roads and Wandering Star off of the album "Dummy" off of "Portishead" I like All Mine, Cowboys, and Seven Months. I really enjoy how they have their recoudings sound a bit fuzzy it adds a neat element to the songs.
The Chieftains- I just went to their concert on April 30th. I went with my friend Tammy, we had a great time. We both enjoy Irish music and when it comes to traditional Irish music the Chieftains are the ones to go to. They are great musicans and they have alot of spirit on stage. The group has been together for over 35 years. They have won 8 (I think it was) grammys for their music. The best thing about seeing them live was that you could tell they were having a great time just playing. Like I said earlier that makes for great concerts. The music makes you want to dance even when you do not know how to dance to that kind of music. Tammy and I are thinking about learning how. While at the concert we were talking to a couple that told us about a Irish night at Balboa park where there is dancing and music. I think we are going to be there. I am looking forward to it.
Eurythmics/Annie Lennox-I have been a fan since I started high school. The music is so fun, and the lyrics are very powerful to me. I can almost lose my self is this world that is created my the stories that Annie tells. I hope that makes sense. I have never seen her in concert but I can tell you this much I will not miss her if she is ever in sourthern California. I could only suggest to anyone who does not know her music go to CD Now and type on Eurtyhmics and listen to some of the music including her solo stuff, and hear for yourself. Annie Lennox is a great preformer, one of my favorite songs is the love theme from Bram Stoker's Dracula, "Love Song for a Vampire". I went to CD NOW and they do not have this song as one you can listen to, but the others from the soundtrack go along with the story. If you know the movie and listen to it start to finish, it is almost like seeing the movie again.
