        Grandma Grace's Boiled Raisin Cake

        Submitted by: Carolyn

1 Package Raisins (I guess it would be a pound) 2 Cups Sugar
4 Cups Water 1 small sive Flour (she said about 3 Cups or a little more)
        1 t. Salt 2 t. Soda
        5 t. Cocoa 1 t. Cinnamon
        1/2 t. Cloves 1/2 t. Allspice

Boil raisins, sugar, and water for 10 minutes, add 1 cup lard (Jo uses butter) and let cool.
Sift all dry ingredients into water, raisin mixture. Mix well. Add nuts, if wanted.
Bake at 325 about 1 hr. Jo said to watch it and not let it get too dark.
Jo said Grandma use to line the pan with a brown paper, but Jo uses foil. She said Grandma always put a pan of water in the oven with the cake so it wouldn't dry out too bad. She also added candied fruit to this for her fruit cake! Yummmm!!
