It's been a while since I've visited both this page and our beloved Kythera. What an affect that little place has on our hearts! Our Family (small word for a big complicated thing) has proudly retained its family home in the village of Karava even though they all came to Oz in the 50's. Many of them have become wealthy and successful in their new home, but SOME of us have forgotten the most important thing of all, their children's future heritage. I have tried so hard to unite them just enough to enable the preservation of our village home for us... the second generation. Those of us with pure hearts and blood love the little cottage by the chapel, and its view of the valley below, but this has been clouded by petty politics and greed. I have shed tears, and lost much sleep, my hair is now slowly turning the proud grey of my granfather, I wish to see the end of my days in the same place my father was born, doing the same things he did as a child, feed my donkey, pick lemons from the yard, eat olives from the family grove, drink from the clear Karava springs of my forefathers. I will never allow our cottage to leave our clan, and will devote my days to bringing love and laughter to its little kitchen once again. My brother Andonis and I willingly went to Greece to do our National Service (don't be afraid, it was wonderful and fulfilling) in order to be able to stay and care for this house of stone and wood. We have had scares and bids from afar, but now it will ALWAYS be a Tzortopoulos family home.
Yassou Cerigo, we love you, and we will come home soon. The next generation will settle in your warmth again. The circle will close.
Panayoti... Andoni... Theadora

I am an australian born Kytherian, my mother is originally from Friligianika (Aloizou) and my father from Fratsia (Calokerinos). I am now living in Holland, I am married to a Dutch man, and we were married in Kythera July 1985, in Fratsia. We are planning to renovate the house of my mother, two (kamares) next to each other. A big challenge but looking forward to it. We went to Kythera 3 years ago, and were surprised to see how many appartments and hotels are popping around the island, in good taste may I add, but I hope that Kythera does not lose its charm and serenity by too much modernisation. 19 years ago, when I met my husband on the island, we, my friends and my mother and I, and a whole lot of tourists plus the locals, used to enjoy going to the dance held in the open air, in the vicinity of Friligianika. It would be nice if that could be restarted. Wishing you all the best and many happy holidays on our beautiful island.
Regards, Georgina(Georgia) Calokerinos(Kalokerinou)

On 14 September 1900 a 14 year old boy by the name of Henry Andronicos arrived in Sydney, Australia from the village of Mylopotamos, Kythera. He was the first of the Andronicos to arrive in Australia and was followed by his sister Paskalio married to George Londy)and his male Andronicos cousins. His eldest sister (married to a Stratigos) remained in Kythera. This year marks the 100th anniverary of the settlement of the Andronicos clan in Australia. I am putting together a short book on the history of the Andronicos clan both in Australia, in America and in Greece and would love to hear of any Andronicos descendants.
