Shirley Jean Yoakum at about 5 years old
This is a page for my mom, Shirley Jean Yoakum She was the eldest child of Allen and Eva Dorean (Harrelson) Yoakum of Athens, Il.  She attended school in Athens and was a graduate of ACHS, Class of 1955.    After high school, she lived in Chicago and the Springfield area. Shirley was the proud mother of 7 children, numerous grandchildren and two great-grand-daughters.
Shirley held various jobs during her life, working as a telephone switchboard operator for Ma Bell, as a Secretary to the Secretary of State, and others.  She  retired from  the
Department of Revenue in Springfield Illinois as a Data Input Operator III.
She loved to garden, roses and tomatoes being her two favored plants. Mom had a odd sense of humor and a positive belief in the basics, such as hard work and knowing how to laugh.) She was fearless, a great role model, a provider of cinnamon sticks and she made every holiday a movement of the spirit.
And, MOST importantly, She smiled with her entire heart.
This is a picture of my mom and my dad (Shirley and Ralph Gallagher) taken about 1969 in Springfield Illinois.
