Field Surgical Pannier No2 (1941 pattern)
This pannier was made by Finch & Son of Gloucester in 1939, and the exterior was marked up for an FSP2 filled to the contents list specified in 1941.
The contents list is pasted to the inside of the lid, and is transcribed at the bottom of this page.
This is the most common design of large pannier, having an upper section accessible via the top, and another, lower section which is only accessible by opening the lid and folding down the front panel. This lower section has a metal divider at the left-hand end, but according to the contents list there should also be a matching one at the right-hand end too.
Unfortunately time has not been kind to this pannier, years of hard use and a nasty attack of woodworm at some point has caused it to look a little saggy.
I hope to have new wickerwork made at some point in the future..
