Mothra vs. Godzilla
Story
An egg, Mothra's egg to be a little more accurate, has washed onto shore after a fierce tidalwave. The Japanese are shocked when they find the egg and bring it home. The Elias, two sisters who are the guardians of Mothra, plead that the people return the egg. Being that the Elias are only 6'' tall, the Japanese bring them along also. However, the Elias escape and return to Infant Island. Godzilla appears and wrecks havoc all over Japan. Nothing can stop the creature as Godzilla destroys buildings, burns towers, and even smashes Osaka Castle. Filled with fear, the Japanese send a small group to find the Elias. They do and beg the Elias to have Mothra adult battle Godzilla. The Elias do not listen for their egg has not been returned. The group then says that not all people are bad, some are good and most of the good are being killed. With their kind ways, the Elias finally agree to have Mothra do battle with Godzilla. However, Mothra is no match for the king of the monsters and is left for dead. Mothra's egg hatches and out comes, not one, but two larva! The Larva fight Godzilla and finally win, by using their web attack to have Godzilla topple into the ocean.
My Opinion
Though Godzilla 1985 is my favorite, Mothra vs. Godzilla is probably the best made Godzilla sequal. With it's sunning special effects and likable characters, this makes for one of the best monster movies ever. You just can't help but feel sorry for Mothra when she is being killed by Godzilla. However, at the same time, it's fun watching Godzilla beat the life out of everything. With it's nuclear feel of Godzilla about to destroy earth, you still have funny moments like the guy who just can't stop eating those eggs. Mothra vs. Godzilla is a must buy for anyone, even if you aren't a fan of monster movies.
Did You Know?
-When Godzilla slides onto Osaka Castle, that wasn't supposed to happen! It was a mistake! But hey, it looked alot more realistic then if Godzila just walked over to Osaka Castle.
-When Mothra vs. Godzilla was released here, it was retitled, Godzilla vs. The Thing. Mothra was censored from commercials and trailors! Perhaps to make the audiance want to see the movie more instead of having to see a giant moth.
-The scene where Godzilla is being battered by battleships was added footage for the American release and is not on the Japanese prints.
Released in Japan: April 1964, America: August 1964
